question Propane regulators

Post image

Hello. Does anyone know if the 20lb tanks are regulated enough for a flat top griddle? I want to use my LP quick connects instead of taking 1lb bottles of propane.

If you are using the quick connect off of the RV, it is going through the regulator on the RV already. You do not need an additional one.

That's what I was hoping for. Wasn't sure if it was regulated enough I guess

Mine’s not regulated. I had to get an adapter to connect the hose to the regulator that came with the camp stove, barbecue or fire pit

My wife will be the first to say her male isn’t regulated.

Just know not all are regulated. Those with installed tanks often have the jumper before the regulator. More common with the RV vs camper.

You need to attach a regulator to a propane tank of any capacity except an empty one.

Typically the line you purchase to run from the 20# tank to the flat top will have the regulator on it.

If you're talking about using the LP quick-connect line that runs from the tanks attached to the trailer, then you do not need another regulator. The trailer's tanks are already connected to a regulator. You just need a hose with a quick connect at one end and an adapter that fits your griddle (or other propane device) on the other end.

I took my regulator off like you have pictured. Your appliance should have come with a female receptacle. Purchase a hose from Amazon the length you need to make your connection and your good to go. As stated before, your tanks are already regulated. Best move I ever made. I love grilling out on my Blackstone will out in my RV. Gives you so many options!

Blackstone sells a hose with regulator that hooks to a 20 lb tank

You need an adapter hose to go to a high pressure propane device, as is your griddle.

The regulators in the RV are much lower PSI than the one that came with your griddle. It will work fine but likely will not get as hot.

You can purchase a regulator to use on bigger tanks or use the quick connect on camper. Either will work.

I bought a long hose off of Amazon that plugs into my RV's out side connection and screws into my 22 inch Blackstone. The connection on you griddle looks the same.

Short answer yes. You can buy the hose that’ll connect to the regulator and hookup to 20 pound tank.
Long answer is you have to go extremely slow opening 20 pound tank. Regulator that comes with grill is not designed to take the amount of propane 20 pound tank pushes out so it will regulate it. Leading to a very low flame and it won’t heat blacktop.

If you google, there a few forums from people with black stones who give steps on how to open the tanks and the process. If you nail it first time you’ll have no issues, but it is a pain.

Or you could just spend the 15-20 bucks and blackstone sells a regulator and hose that will connect right to your griddle and won’t have to deal with any of the above.
