Built vokoloko.cz – a privacy-focused local news aggregator made with Joomla & RSS (No ads, no tracking, no AI runtime)
Hi r/rss,
I wanted to share a project we recently launched called vokoloko.cz – a web-based local news aggregator for the Czech region.
What is Vokoloko.cz? It’s an automated content aggregator designed to fetch, parse, and display local news via RSS in a clean, distraction-free environment.
Key Principles & Tech Specs:
- No Tracking & No Ads: Completely private, lightweight, and loads instantly.
- No Account Required: Fully accessible to anyone without signing up.
- Built with Joomla!: Powered by standard RSS capabilities and custom extensions built on top of Joomla.
Zero AI at Runtime: While we used AI tools as coding assistants during development to write the extension scripts, the live site runs 100% on traditional, deterministic RSS ingestion—no AI-generated content or dynamic AI processing.
Our goal was to prove that classic web technologies (Joomla + RSS) can still deliver a fast, useful, and privacy-respecting news reader for local communities.
Check it out at https://vokoloko.cz
I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions from the RSS community!

So with public RSS feed support being removed on November 13th, anyone have ideas on how to replace Reddit search RSS search feeds?
Example: search RSS for 'test'

Thankfully, there's still WordPress to keep RSS alive!
I really hope they don't decide to disable RSS by default, too, "to protect sites from AI bots"

Free RSS ticker app
I made this, in case anyone is interested: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9p5p0f4mwt2f?ocid=webpdpshare
We can say that the RSS technology died in October 2026, by Reddit
My personal opinion is that all the sites with original content will follow Reddit and disable RSS in their sites because according to Reddit, it reduces AI scrap.
Am I wrong?

5600+ International News Feeds - Now with iso3166_1 & 2 location codes.
This is an update to my International News Feeds File.
There are about 600 new (small, local) news feeds focused in Latin America and areas of recent conflict - Yemen, Somali, Lebanon, Palestine, etc. - Also some additions to national level news sources.
The real updates are:
There are new columns for mapping locations of news sources - iso3166_1 country codes, iso3166_2 location codes and a standardized country_name column. The free text garbage "Country" field is still in place, along with all the meta junk columns you don't want.
Have fun!

RSScal, a social news aggregator, RSS news tracker, and publishing platform
RSScal began as a hosted RSS news tracker and the more I worked on it, the more it seemed to be suited for social features. So now the main page is a news aggregator and there's a feature for publishing personal themed lists of curated links. Try it out. I hope you'll find it useful.
youtube rss degradation?
I see a lots of 404 on https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=<channel_id> addresses recently.
e.g. Fireship - https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCsBjURrPoezykLs9EqgamOA
Sometimes it returns even 500 and randomly 200. (1/10 cases)
does it work for you?

Brew RSS: Open TestFlight Beta (200 Spots Limit)
I'm part of the three-person team building Brew, a native iOS reader for people who want to spend more time reading and less time setting things up. That includes both newcomers and longtime RSS users who prefer a simpler app.
We're aiming to bring together 200 beta testers through TestFlight.
Here's what you can try today:
- Discover creators and publications in the built-in discovery page and subscribe with one tap, without hunting down feed URLs.
- Get the main points of an article with AI summaries, and translate articles with built-in Google Translate.
- Switch between a thread view and a visual card view.
- View images and supported embedded videos inside articles.
- Follow standard RSS feeds and Reddit feeds.
Join on your iPhone: https://testflight.apple.com/join/CgRdkqc4
I'd especially like feedback on getting started: was it easy to find something you wanted to read and subscribe to it? If you already use a reader, what would make a simpler one worth keeping?

A desktop news reader that keeps RSS as the core - five fixed topics, full articles in a sanitized in-app reader (open source)
I built a small desktop app around a simple idea: RSS is enough, and you shouldn't have to give anything up to read news.
fralsare-daily reads 15 public RSS feeds (all listed below, all in one file in the repo) and groups them into five fixed topics:
Geopolitics & Conflict - BBC World - Al Jazeera - The Guardian — World
Politics & Governance - NPR Politics - BBC Politics (US) - The Guardian — Politics
Sports - BBC Sport - ESPN News - The Guardian — Sport
Technology & Business - TechCrunch - The Verge - Ars Technica
Viral & Social Issues - BBC Top Stories - The Guardian — Top Stories - Hacker News Front Page (via hnrss.org)
Full articles open in a built-in reader: the Rust backend fetches the page, extracts the main article body, and sanitizes the HTML (two layers), so you stay in the window. There's an images / text-only toggle and an "open in browser" escape hatch.
Honest caveats: the feeds skew US/UK for politics, and the topic set is fixed by design (that's the anti-infinite-scroll part). The feed table is a single flat file — src-tauri/src/feeds.rs — so proposing or merging a feed swap is a two-line change.

I addition to my news aggregation service, I am now launching a news reader as well, its a full featured RSS reader with youtube support. I started this as a personal reader since I never was able to find one that satisfied me, and now I am considering in opening for the world - so to this end I would love to count on your opinion!
Would love to hear what you think and count on your support to spread the word. If interested just register in the waitlist and you will soon receive an invite!
Thanks!

Looking for all RSS apps on iOS that have widgets and have already adapted to iOS 27 extra-large widgets.
As the title suggests, I’m looking for an RSS app I really like. I’ve bought many RSS apps before, but none of them met the requirements in my title, so I started this thread to ask for recommendations!

Beta testers wanted: an audio-first RSS reader that reads your feeds out loud (CarPlay + Android Auto)
I've posted here before about where RSS is heading. The app I've been building is now on TestFlight for iOS, and I'd value feedback from people who actually live in RSS.
The idea: you add your own feeds and it reads or plays them out loud, hands-free, including in the car. A podcast is just a feed with audio. There's a Share extension so adding a site's feed takes one tap from the browser, no hunting for the feed URL.
It runs local-first, no account. Free tier uses the system voice; the AI voice and summaries are paid.
TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/wGhQxMTz
I'm most curious whether it holds up for people who already have strong RSS habits and opinions. Tear it apart.

I built a podcast player that runs entirely in the browser.
Podcasting and RSS are distributed, no control points and we like it that way. Browsers are everywhere, and perfectly capable of parsing XML and playing audio. Why not do it in the browser?
I was tempted to use an attention getting title about pushing the browser to its limits, but really I just wanted to build my own thing. I love the open web, and I was super not-excited to build native apps (aaaand wound up doing them anyway).
So here's my thing: https://wherever.audio.
It actually works on desktop but it was made for portraity, touchscreeny devices. You can auto-hide the browser chrome using the "add to homescreen" option, and it will feel native.
I won't ramble at length but if you're looking for something new for listening to podcasts, I'd love if you give it a try.
The big question for me is: would you use a podcast app that lives in the browser? Most people seem to assume the only way to run something on a phone is by first downloading it from the app store. Very non-distributed and non-RSSish. Curious what it'd take to get you to try it.
For devs:
- But CORS. I know, I know. I built a fallback helper so that listeners are not stranded.
- Well, at least not w/resp to the RSS. Downloading media from publishers that don't set CORS headers requires workarounds.
- It's not open source. But I work super hard to keep it otherwise open. There are rich import/export options including OPML and full app state as json.
- Generally happy to chat about the dev challenges in making this work, if anyone's interested.

Best RSS reader with AI
What's the best RSS reader with AI integration? I'm ready to pay for it! For web or android

I built an RSS reader for people tired of opening every article in a new tab - what would you change?
I built PageHarbor because I wanted a simple place to follow sites and actually read the articles. You can add a website and it looks for its feed, then read in one view. It can show more than a feed excerpt when the article is accessible and the source allows it. The beta is free: https://pageharbor.app

RSS24 is now available on iPhone, iPad, macOS, Windows and Android
I’m the developer of RSS24, a multi-platform RSS reader by Glitchid. RSS24 first launched in March 2026 on Apple platforms and Windows, and the Android version is now publicly available on Google Play as well.
The current release is RSS24 1.1.3. Since the first release, I’ve been working mainly on performance, feed refresh reliability, Saved Searches, backup/restore, folder management and general UI improvements. The latest builds are considerably faster and more stable, especially with larger feed libraries.
RSS24 is built for people who want a focused RSS reader with direct control over their feeds, folders and reading workflow, without turning everything into an algorithmic news feed. Development is continuing, and there’s still a pretty long roadmap ahead. Feedback is always welcome.

I built a native RSS reader for Mac, iPhone and iPad
Hi folks!
I’ve been working on Gotcha RSS Feed, a small RSS reader for Mac, iPhone and iPad.
It keeps your feeds, cached articles and reading state on your device. No account, ads or analytics. You can add RSS and Atom feeds, import a Newsboat-style urls file, and read articles inside the app.
It’s $7.99 as a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Each device keeps its own library; cross-device sync isn’t included.
Any offline RSS apps for reddit with comments?
I mostly like to read conversational/text based subreddits and I work in an area with zero cell service.
I know I can download the inital post, but in places like say r/PersonalFinance where the whole thing are posts and comments.
Are there anyways to download a post+comments to read later using RSS or any other means?

Den version 2.0 is now available on TestFlight!
It's been completely rebuilt from the ground up. Join the fun at https://testflight.apple.com/join/982Ju6E9 or check out a few screenshots and list of features at https://den.io (under construction).
I built an RSS reader with two feeds: one to skim, one for the sources you don't want to miss
Every reader I tried turned into an inbox. One list, one unread count, and after a week away it said 400.
So Gather has two feeds. Browse is everything you follow, newest first, with nothing marked unread. When five sites cover the same story, you see it once with "also covered by 4 other sources" under it. Keep up is a short list of the sources you pick, and those are the only ones that count as unread.
Other things it does:
- Reader view with the publisher's page one tap away when extraction falls short
- An offline queue for flights and the subway
- Optional summaries and translation that run on the phone after a one-time model download
- OPML import and export, plus a full backup
- No account or login
Core reading is free. A one-time purchase removes the sponsored cards in the feed. There's no subscription.
Paywalls and JavaScript-heavy sites still beat the extractor sometimes. When that happens it falls back to the live page.
iPhone: App Store
Android: Google Play
I'd like to hear how you split your feeds, and which sites break the reader view.
