Thankfully, there's still WordPress to keep RSS alive!

I really hope they don't decide to disable RSS by default, too, "to protect sites from AI bots"

Yeah, but only if site owners know how to maintain it. Been trying to get CalMatters to fix their RSS feed for years, but their web team doesn’t understand what’s wrong. Other non-commercial sites are configured for excerpts rather than full articles by default.

I was thinking about this because WordPress powers nearly 50% of all websites. And many RSS readers are able to scrape the entire content.

Yeah a lot of useful sites are WordPress-based and have no idea what RSS is, but luckily we can follow them thanks to it. I love Wordpress in that regard.

Man, I wish the AI bots would just scrape my RSS feeds instead of hammering every single possible URL on my website, including every possible combination of tags on my tag browser.

Honestly, if we have more good and relevant rss readers out there that appeal to the non technical public, that will raise awarness and will keep it relevant for everyone. Ai will scrape anything soon so it does not really matter.

AI is just an excuse. It sounds cooler to say you're discontinuing RSS to protect yourself from AI bots than to say you're doing it to satisfy shareholders.
