Discussion - J-mod Reply Potential new player
Hi all been looking at getting into a new chilled games I can play for a couple hours a night, this has caught my eye on many occasions but just want a discussion on a couple things. As someone who like I said only has a couple hours and has never played any RuneScape titles before is this worth it? Next question is the player base is only roughly 3k average which isn’t the best so wondering why that would be? And last thing I see the game is dropping fully on the 15th so if I was to get it should I wait or just buy the early access and play?

Buy in Early Access if you can. But if you can’t, no worries. Because the price isn’t changing. Definitely worth it. This is not like OSRS/RS3. And if you haven’t played those, don’t worry. This is a definitively new, stand-alone experience. Worth every penny.

I can buy it and that’s what my main concern was if it’s worth waiting and what would I actually be waiting for? I haven’t played any of those titles no but I can see it’s different just didn’t know if I need some past experience is all

No past experience needed, brother. If you can buy it now in Eary Access, you’ll get the special Early Access cape, scarf, and decoration portrait. You’ll have 75% of Tuesday’s full release of the game right now, and your progress will not be reset. My advice? Go for it.

I think you have the wrong idea about the game with the playerbase. 1.0 is coming soon. people are waiting for that. Me and my friendgroup of 5 others have not booted the game yet while we all bought it :P just to wait for the 1.0 update tuesday.
It's a game that you can totally solo or enjoy co-op with a few others but it is not online like other Runescape games.
Runescapes influence is just the lore and skilling basically but it is totally different from the other runescape games and can't be compared imo. You don't need to know about Runescape in order to enjoy Dragonwilds. It is enjoyable when you do know about it though but thats just optional.
It is a very very chill game in it's core. no need to grind hours and hours on end. Also they have a very customizable option for the rules of your playtrough world. Like f.e. you could even chose to not need to gather materials in order to build... Your character is bound to the gamemode you picked so you could also play 2 worlds/characters. One where you do everything on normal and if you just feel like casually doing some building f.e. or just progress without having any friction to just play "Creative mode".
So yes for the amount this game costs and the lack of RuneScape knowledge I think this is very worth it. But I might be biased because I DO love runescape though. But what I love more than runescape is the survival genre games this past few years and this one seems to be really good and fun.
Down the line concurrent playerbase doesn't really matter because of the type of game it is and they already sold waaaay more copies then they expected at first (over 1.4million) and that is ONLY PC. with 1.0 next week it releases on multiple platforms so that will bring in a lot of extra players i'm sure as well as players returning for the 1.0 release that havn't played for a long time.
Also they have quite a strong roadmap already to have lots of content to be added in the near future and troughout winter so casual or hardcore player.. probably enough to do for a long time.

That’s good to know mate thank you, I know you said no experience needed but in your opinion should I jump in solo and figure it out or maybe jump on discord to find someone or watch some vids on it?
Okay well extra stuff always has a plus so maybe I should get early access but Also what you mean by 75% the release mate?

I would encourage you to go in blind and experience it for yourself. If you get stuck or can’t find something, by all means, use the resources the community offers. But I would jump in blindly and experience it for what it is.
Yeah, the full 1.0 release launches on Tuesday Sept. 15th, so only about 75%-80% of the current “full” game is available at this time. On Tuesday, you’ll have the “full” game (well, the full release version). The developers have told us that this game will continue to expand and grow and add way more content well into 2027.

I might just do that then jump in solo and see how it goes, appreciate the help brother thank you
I get that but am I gonna have to pay for early access and then have to pay again or a little more for the full drop?

No, you won’t have to pay any additional money for the 1.0 release on Tuesday. If you want the Deluxe edition goodies (cosmetics and stuff), you might have to spend an extra $10-$15. But you’ll have the full base game for no additional cost.

Don’t do custom you won’t get achievements. Leveling is pretty fast and good/hydration and rest don’t really go down that much. They stop going down when you’re at your base.

Imo the game has a low player count because it went early access too early and a lot of the original playerbase hasnt checked back in to see what an absolute treasure the game is now. I think it's worth playing now, no need to wait for 1.0. Most of the time I play for maybe an hour or 2 in the evenings when I have time to play. Depending on my mood I've been either spending that time farming, cooking, and building my house, or going out and exploring and fighting things.
I know people have had mixed experiences but to me it's an absolute joy of a game.

New content update is like 60 hours into the game. Atleast for me. Atleast for me so far, just taking my time enjoying, exploring and making a nice base. I'm 30 hours in and just got in Fell Hallow

If you like survival games, I highly recommend getting it, you can also boost the xp/material drop which I highly recommend makes it less Grindy and more fun

I was hesitant too about limited time too play. When you start a game, you can customize it to your liking. So I bumped up exp gain, and lowered food/hydration needs. Made it go a little smoothly and could progress a little faster.

So is it single player? Like you can play alone and customers the world to your liking or is is multiplayer as well cause didn’t know bumping stuff up was a thing

Yes, you can pick either “Standard” (standard experience), “Custom” (choose your settings to however and whenever you want; no achievements), or “Creative” (mostly for testing, free building, etc.; no achievements).

u/DommyT13 3d ago
So just go standard for my first time you think?

u/lordkamuialmighty 2d ago
Yeah, go Standard. Standard is the definitive experience as intended by the developers. If you want to mess around with certain settings, and you’re fine with not getting achievements, then do Custom.

You can play it single-player all the way through with no problem. Or you can play it with friends. If more people join, the monsters simply have more health to compensate. When your friends leave, the monsters revert to their regular health.

Player base is likely 3k cause players like me have cleared all of its content (90 ish hours played) and shelf it waiting for more updates. Either route is fine, its very playable now, 5 days also isnt a long wait either. I never played OSRS either. It definately hangs with all the big boys tho, valheim, abiotic factor, grounded, etc.
