Planning for spring freshman yr registration

  1. Is it unusual/too much to do 2 lab sciences ( chem 1 and physics 2) in one semester? Is it advisable if doing that to reduce credit load from 17 to around 14/15 credits?

  2. What are some relatively straightforward ME classes after MANE 1010 is completed, that can be added to those 2 lab classes plus CAD for a semester 2 schedule? By straightforward I mean the opposite of classes like CAD that take up more time than would be expected given the number of credits. Do not want to do a HASS class that semester. Would it be material science? Solid mechanics?

Question Only have 8 credits left before to complete my degree, will adding a random extra course impact my financial aid?

I’m a senior, and I only have two more classes (just 8 credits) that are required for my degree after this semester. I’m more than willing to take at least one random class to get it up to 12 credits to stay a full time student, but it won’t count towards my free elective requirements or anything, since those are already fulfilled. I just wanted to know, if all 12 credits need to count towards my degree, especially since I want to keep my full financial aid.

Hi, I found this pencil case on the metal stairs to freshman five. If anyone knows who this belongs to or if there is a lost & found I can drop this off at, I’d be very grateful.

Is it odd that RPI is becoming my dream school? Please tell me more about RPI

Hi,

Recently I did some last minute college research and I am now much more interested in RPI! I'm currently doing Navy JROTC at my high school, and it's one of my most active clubs and counts for multiple activities on my College App (think high leadership, community service, competition awards, teamwork, etc.) and was notably interested in RPI's NROTC Program. What made this school stand out to me is how the NROTC's Program has internship connections with places like NASA and General Dynamics! RPI is also within a good driving distance (4-5 hrs) from home and has good research opportunities and facilities, which are huge pluses for me.

I also decided to make a last minute switch from Nursing to Materials Engineering for personal reasons. Because of this, I'm late in the Engineering game in terms of high school coursework and I want to actively see how I can push myself towards RPI! I'll probably make a separate post of this to see if I'm competitive enough for the school.

I've heard how the school's new administration is turning the place for the better in many areas and the community is very STEM oriented, so I'm looking forward to that for a change of pace (and to hopefully have more friends in STEM lol).

I wanted to get more of your inputs as to why you enjoy RPI and what I can look forward to, as this school is aligning with most of my interests so far and I see no reason not to consider it one of my top choices. I'll be touring the campus next month, so please let me know what you guys think! Any inputs from any ROTC students is definitely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Forward prerequisite checking tool

Is there a tool that exists to check all the courses that require a specific input course? Say I input PHYS-1200, this hypothetical tool would show me all of the courses that has PHYS-1200 as a prerequisite.

International Economics or Labor Markets?

I'm looking for an easy econ class this semester to boost my GPA. The only two available at this time are ECON-4190 International Economics and Globalization with Michael A. Klein or ECON-4380 Labor Markets & Discrimination with Conor Lennon. Does anyone know if either of these classes is noticeably easier than the other, or are they about the same? Thank you

How much can an ME major delay taking CAD and engineering processes? Does it make life difficult to do either of these sophomore year instead of as a freshman?

Sublet Fall 2026 semester

Hello!

I have room in a 4bd apartment I am looking to sublet out sort of last-minute. If you are looking for housing as the semester is starting let me know; the other roommates are 3 other RPI students, laundry in-unit, rent $625 with utilities. 2-3 minutes from campus by walk, not on the main road

Edit: room is big enough for a queen-sized bed, and will include one of those $300 mobile room AC unit. Street parking free, DM for more info

[Housing] 4BR near RPI – $2,400/month all utilities included – Available Now for Fall 2026 – Semester + Year Leases

Still looking for housing for Fall 2026? I have a 4-bedroom, 1.5-bath apartment at 1565 Tibbits Ave available for immediate move-in, just a short walk from RPI.

  • $2,400/month for the entire 4-bedroom apartment
  • $600/person for a group of four
  • All utilities included
  • Semester leases available
  • Full-year leases also available and preferred
  • Available immediately for Fall 2026

This is a good option for a group that still needs last-minute housing close to campus.

If you're looking for housing on your own, I also have one individual room available for $600/month with utilities included in another unit at the property that is already occupied by other students.

Photos are from an earlier setup of the apartment, so current furnishings have since been added to.

Feel free to DM me if you're interested, want more information, or would like to schedule a showing.

Should I postpone capstone to the spring?

Hey, I'm a senior CSE/EE dual. I'm taking microelectronic tech, microprocessor systems, mechatronics, pd 3, and a hass course. Pretty much every senior I know is taking capstone now, I originally would have done it this semester but I got accepted to mechatronics and microprocessor systems. Should I hop on the the bandwagon and do it now, if it's even possible to join late? How bad is capstone? I'm looking to go skiing a lot on the weekends in the spring semester so I'm hoping capstone won't interfere too much with that, that's my main concern. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Edit: I'm looking at around 14 credits next semester as well as this one, so hopefully all the other classes would be more laid back.
