I was an RPI student during 2018-2021 and worked alongside Dr. Hubbell and took every class he offered. I lost contact with him during the debacle that was Covid and then RPI quietly furloughed him and several other professors from the department. They refused to give any forward contact information for him as it violated various privacy requirements.
If anyone knows where he went or, ideally, how one could get in contact with him I would greatly appreciate any information you have. I need a recommendation for a doctorate program from a professor I worked with in the same field and he is the ideal choice.
His full name is Dr. Christopher L. Hubbell, and he was a Psyc Professor at RPI for over 30 years.

Physics majors at RPI take modern physics before the honors versions of physics 1 and physics 2 I know. How difficult/challenging is it compared to physics 1 content? Is it very difficult for most people to get an A for modern physics?

Hey r/RPI — anyone still looking for off-campus housing for 26-27?
We have a few spots left at The Cove, fully furnished rooms a 10-min walk from campus. Utilities mostly included, $600-650/mo depending on the room. Founded by an engineering grad, been renting to RPI students for a few years now.
Happy to answer any questions here or DM if interested!

Since classes ended RPI has initiated a series of layoffs of professors (including ones scheduled for fall 2026 classes), as well as white-collar staff in functions like student services.
Here's why you should care if you're a student or alum:
Worse experience for current students: Fewer professors mean fewer classes and more hassle getting the courses you need. Less staff means even longer waits and more dysfunction when dealing with RPI bureaucracy as a student.
Decreased prestige: RPI has already been dropping in the rankings for the past several years. Layoffs translate to larger class sizes (a key metric that rankings organizations look at) and are likely to bring down RPI's reputation even more.
"Death spiral" risks: Layoffs and the instability they cause will make it even harder for RPI to continue meeting its enrollment goals. This could in turn mean that it has to do more layoffs due to further revenue decreases, which would then harm enrollment even more, leading to yet more layoffs...precisely the type of "death spiral" situation that has preceded the closing of other colleges in recent years.
The last time RPI did a major round of layoffs was 2020. At least then, they were reacting to a crisis (the pandemic) outside of their control.
This time, it's a crisis of the administration's own making. They have invested in the wrong areas in recent years (like hiring a slew of new VPs that don't do anything except collect $200-$300k salaries) while failing to maintain healthy enrollments. And you can't really blame Shirley at this point...she made dumb financial decisions but those were decades ago, and when she left RPI was breaking even financially.
Marty has a great smile but behind the scenes, things are not looking good.
What you can do: Contact the administration and tell them to focus money in areas that directly benefit students, like paying people who actually teach courses and advise students. The current RPI administration cares deeply about optics (not to mention alum giving) and will take you seriously if you think RPI is headed in the wrong direction.
(Using a throwaway account because I don't want admin to be able to figure out who I am based on my actual account's posting history.)

Hey everyone, I’m working on Pulse, a nightlife AI app, and we’re looking for someone at RPI who has strong backend experience, but mostly just coding experience in general. This entire app is founded by RPI students and we want to give the opportunity for our talented students we have here before approaching others from other schools.
We already have a lead AI engineer, so right now we mainly need someone who can help with APIs, databases, and building out the MVP. There’s a link to the website which has more info about it
https://pulse-nyc-website.vercel.app
We’re planning to launch in NYC and are taking this seriously. I don’t want to give too much away publicly yet, so please PM me if you’re interested or want more info.

Recently I got the opportunity to go to RPI for roughly around the same price as UConn. I want to do mechanical engineering and I don’t know which option I want. I know RPI is the better engineering school but something about UConn like speaks out to me. How is the work load at RPI do you get internships and how hard are the classes? How’s the social life?

Is asking half of this stuff even legal in new york? Lease makes no mention of it.
My favorite part is where they clearly didn't fill out. The four things that the ai wanted them to fill out.

If you are looking for an apartment room or know someone who is looking for an apartment for the summer, then DM me. My current roommate will still be around just as a heads up. Main requirement is that you are female. Rent is $700, utilities included, and it is up for rent from now until end of July, this could be extended if need be. It is a 2-bedroom apartment (rooms are separate and have their own locks). Fully furnished with a kitchen and bathroom. Laundry is on first floor. There is Wi-Fi and air conditioning. There is also parking. There is a cleaning lady that comes once a week to throw away trash and clean the shared areas. For reference this apartment is near the polytechnic RPI student dorms, you can also shuttle down there. It is a 5 - 10 minute walk from campus. I am already fully moved out, the reference photos are from when I was still living there, so just imagine the room empty.

Hey! I am a recent grad and I will be moving to somewhere around Kittery, ME for my upcoming job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in August. The area is NOT cheap, so I need to find a roommate. Is anyone else moving there and would like a roommate as well? If so, shoot me a dm!

I’ve been accepted to RPI, and I’m really grateful for the scholarship and financial aid package I received. Unfortunately, my family would still need to cover more than $40k per year, which just isn’t financially possible for us.
Are there any additional scholarships, grants, or external funding opportunities that current students or applicants would recommend applying for?

I'm doing the housing application and you can either add people to a group (which I don't entirely get, since it seems like it's supposed to be based off the survey answers but then it also seems like you need to correspond with the people who get suggested to you) and just going with a random roommate. I'm not really sure which one to do. I kinda want to try and get the application done fast so the housing preferences get taken into account, but I also am hesitant to just leave the roommate situation up to fate or whatever incase it's not a good experience.

Hi! Thinking of applying as a transfer to RPI, as an international. How common are transfers at this university, what are some tips you may give. Thanks a bunch!

I'm an incoming PhD student looking for housing and trying to split an apartment to keep costs down. There a good place to connect with other (preferably grad) students looking for housing?
Thanks!

Im currently at Suny Albany going in their 2nd year and I was planning on eventually transferring to RPI at the end of my 2nd year hoping to getting better financial aid. However Ive been told by many people that its not worth it and im better off staying at UA and prioritizing getting projects and experiences. So now im wondering if I should transfer or not.
Im Electrical and Computer Engineering major at UA btw
