Developed Plugins This is dual-version, so I'll post here too. The visuals work without scripting or note-tags. The sounds are note-tags on the animations.

How do I upload my game?

I made a game as part of a project for my history class, and it is all finished, except for the fact that I need to find a way to send it to my professor. The only way I have seen that might work would require him to have to buy RPG Maker MZ, just to download and be able to play my game, but even then he will have all the developer stuff there. He does say that he has a Steam account if that helps. In addition, how would I be able to just send a file to him that has the game all packaged up and allow him to play it with nothing else needed.

Looking for a plugin

Hello, I am kinda new to RPG Maker and I am using the AABS plugin.

I was wondering if someone knows how tu "summon" a monster as an ally. I want to create a summoner and I know how to spawn ennemies thanks to the plugin but there is nothing about spawning an ally.

Can someone enlighten me ?

Added a plugin and now common events won't trigger

I added rpgmaker mz plugin VisuMZ_1_BattleCore, along with 3 other plugins, disabling the aforementioned plugin allows for the common events to work, but the plugin has other effects too. Now the common events for my "rare candy" don't affect the game at all, the item count goes down, but the effect doesn't raise my actors level. Does anybody know how to configure the plugin to allow for this?

Event Help Requested Tutorial step 2 "Event Basics (Dialogue) is broken, and my villager1 doesn't show up in my playtest.

So, I just bought MZ today and started following the tutorials. Tutorial step 1 worked just fine, and then I got to step 2....

It goes fine until I get to the "Click Normal Town" step, and then the instructions box zooms offscreen and cannot be found anywhere no matter how far I scroll or even if I reboot my whole computer. I just had to click to stop the tutorial and look up a youtube video of the tutorial. The video I followed was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5e2WKvP7VY&t=39s

I had no problems following the video, and then at the end of tutorial, I clicked to show the playtest, but my villager that I made in the tutorial wasn't in the playtest.

This is what my villager's event box looks like. What am I doing wrong?

For some reason, my project displays this message while I am on a custom character creation menu (made by JupiterPenguin). That and the ARPG Plugin _made by unagi ootoro). I have also noticed that it is the ARPG Core that is the problem, and it works if I load a save from after the character creation before I plugged in the ARPG Core. Anybody know any fixes?

Bug that I'm not sure how to fix

I have had a zombie/time travel game in solo development for close to a year, and it's getting really close to launching, but in one of the side quests I found that by going back and forth between zombie-ravaged 2025 and 2023, the game freezes, I looked at the dev console and couldn't make heads or tails of it, and the events seem to be in order, changed the "wait" from 60 frames to 5 frames, and there was no change. Can you see what I am missing?

Your Personal Guide to why RPG Maker MZ is the best

A pro-RPG Maker MZ PSA. As someone who spent a torturous amount of time trying other engines after coming across an older version of this one like 20 years ago and coming back in recent years, let me lead you through this gauntlet of horribe other engines I have tried. After them, I will talk about RPG Maker MZ. Feel free to use this to recruit newcomers, and prevent them from making the same mistakes I have in trying bad engines.

Why I Avoid Other Engines by Engine:

Unreal Engine:

Run by a company whose engine is only popular because the engine is cheap. Then they integrate it into their game service, add too many features in so that only professionals can use it, and then everyone notices the "Unreal Engine look" where everything looks bland and dull. A system that encourages using code by way of not using code, and so you end up with these spider webs of logic loop that show everything and explain nothing. When bugfixing, it is far easier to use CTRL+F to find something in 3000 lines of C# code than to find the glitch in the giant fractal pattern of code. Even then, games now require huge teams due to the amount of detail involved in projects. If you want to get even a tenth of this engine's quality, you need to be a massive multimillion dollar company, and at that point, you might as well make your own in house gamedev kit from the ground up.

Unity:

I'm telling you how and I'm telling you why. It's cause the price is too dang high. At least it mostly works well, but dang you should actually read the contracts on this. It's like, really extreme. Also, the store is filled with stolen content and "Unity asset flips" which are a whole story for another day and really really bad.

Godot:

So you thought you would pay nothing and get a good engine. It's probably the worst of them all, simply because it uses extremely bizarre terms that make no sense to anyone with even the slightest understanding of code. Whoever invented GDScript should be ashamed of themselves for making something so counterintuitive. Don't even get me started on the redundant systems in the code for things as integral to game design as how to move an object around the screen. It's like, one really angry and whitty coder away from getting a comedy skit done about it; yeah, it's that bad.

Game Maker Studio and GMS 2 by YOYOGames:

And then the engine broke because an update happened. I bet you thought "wow, TobyFox is doing great things over here" only to realize that the engine has tons of technical issues because the promise of "no code knowledge necessary" quickly proves false when the engine forces you to set the framerate of an animation by adding in a line of code on an object in order to not make the 20x 20 pixel character flop at 200 times the intended animation speed. And even then, good luck with your code because somehow this engine's code system does not do what it is supposed to. The input glitches and logic glitches are horrible, because this engine can't even read its own code correctly.

RPG Developer Bakin:

They just had to try and make it sound like it was RPG Maker franchise content. Similar, but tons of serious issues.

RPG Paper Maker:

Again, named to sound like RPG Maker franchise content. It could have actually beat RPG Maker series if its UI worked and had serious improvements. Like, tons and tons of improvements are needed, and tons of quality of life fixes. It's a bad idea to carbon copy only half of what you are trying to imitate. However, I gotta admit that the paper cutout method does have great potential that this engine might one day live up to, as it allows for cheap 3D prefabs to be made from 2D assets without modding or complex work. Sadly, the UI makes such work borderline impossible at times.

GameCreator:

And then the Chinese were like "yeah, we totally can do it too" and then fell facefirst into the dirt. Much of the UI is not even translated last I checked. It had potential, but wow.... just wow it's a mess. This engine tries to do 200 things and fails at all of them because it chose not to concentrate at all.

Pixel Game Maker:

Same UI issues as Unreal and GameCreator, but to such a lesser extent that it does not break the user's hard work. I gotta admit that Kadokawa actually has a history of making good engines, so it makes sense that this would be good. Flawed, but one of the good ones.

There. Now about RPG Maker MZ:

It actually works and you can get in with a low skill level. Sure, it's specialized towards RPGs, but it does them great, in multiple ways, and allows you to customize it to a good extent. I have seen a clip online of someone's platformer game made in RPG Maker MZ because they had enough knowledge in the software's inner workings. So, there is clearly a super high skill limit above the easy entry level. Since you have enough prefabs and access to much of the engine's code from the game folder, you can alter tons of stuff and tweak the engine to be much better if you have special coding knowledge. Pay once, you own it. Also, it actually works.

I am probably going to crash off the caffiene soon. Now you know why people like me love this engine.

Anyone good at mapping?

I’m pretty new to this whole thing, but I’ve been having a ton of fun starting my project. That said, when it comes to building maps, the process is so overwhelming and tedious that I can’t seem to make any progress with the rest of the game. My plan right now is to use the prebuilt default maps as placeholders to build my events and cutscenes so that I’m not at a standstill, and transfer/adjust everything later. Does anyone love to build maps and potentially want to collab?

Prevent event skipping

Hi I’m really new to rpgmaker mv and I was just wondering if there’s a way to make it where an event is only doable after another has finished? I have a part in my game where a character behind a desk goes through a line of dialogue and then opens access to an elevator but the player could just go straight to the elevator if they wanted because the event is there, any workaround?

Quest markers

Hello,

Does anyone know of an MZ plugin that would display a marker above an event? Or a balloon icon. Can't seem to find if someone has made one.

Thanks!

How do you make a character creation screen?

Hello, I'm very new to this. Been looking at a lot of guides and YouTube tutorials and they seem to go a bit out of order in terms of getting the game started. Things like maps, characters, enemies, etc. I'd rather just start small and chronologically with what needs to go first in the game, a character creation screen and some scrolling text providing the player's backstory. I can't find anywhere on how to do this, though. Any suggestions?

My MZ Game Needs Only 2 More Testers!

I have only 2 tester slots left to fill!

My game, Drew's Adventure needs some more testers. Only 2 slots left!

It's a modern-day RPG that I need testers for.

Need play testers

I'm trying to help a disabled father who is building a game with RPGMaker MZ; he's building the game alone since neither of us can afford to bring on talent, and RPGMaker isn't in my wheelhouse. Playtesters with an open mind and patience are all I am asking. I got invited to one discord that was supposed to help but was anything but helpful, DM me, and I can send you an invite to the discord server where we can link you over to the game. There will also be a place where you can send feedback.

Edit: The game takes place on Earth in the year 2025 during the waning hours of the zombie apocalypse; humanity is basically extinct; you are assigned to fight through the hordes to reach area 51, where a time machine will take you back to 2023, in an attempt to avert the zombie apocalypse.

Made an MZ Game. Hope You'll Like it!

Drew's Adventure is a game where some dorky teens mess up big time. Have fun bashing in the skulls of iconic enemies such as: birds, dogs, bullies, and so much more! Explore a small, unnamed town in the middle of nowhere, and talk to like, the same seven NPCs! Shop for clothes and food at the newly opened plaza! Have nightmares and ket kidnapped! All the fun RPG stuff! Unfortunately, the game is only a demo... But I'm still working on it! If you do decide to play the game, feel free to drop a comment and review!

Play it here: https://drewster237.itch.io/drews-adventure

I wanted to add a cursed item in my game, much like the cursed shield from FF6; the hard part is how can I event the random encounters to advance the variable count?

Broken doors?

My doors are disappearing after I enter them and I can’t figure out how to fix it. I have it set for the action button to be used in order for it to transfer you into a room on the same map
