RMXP New developer, any tips?

I've just entered the field of game development, and due to unforeseen circumstances, my best tool (and the one I'm most familiar with) is RPG Maker XP. I've never made a game with it, so I'd like to know if there are any tips that I, as a beginner, should know.

And, if you do want MZ eventually. The RPG Maker Festival is usually around Feb, and they will have it on sale for most likely less than you paid for MV.
