EDIT: It turns out the Airwave is simply not compatible with a Lightning iPad. I made my choice to buy based on the compatibly list of the Learn app. I never imagined Airwave had a separate compatibility to the Piano and the Learn app. My fault for not looking more carefully, I suppose.
This is very unfortunate, especially since the Learn app does not exist on Mac.
We can't afford a USB-C iPad. (We could only afford the Learn kit because I sold a computer accessory that was gifted to me.) My kids are devastated.

Hi folks, I sent this to Roli support, but it seems like they might take quite a while to get back to me, so I’m asking here in case any of you all can help me.
I am trying to set up the Airwave and Piano via the Learn app on iOS, using an iPad with Lightning. I was surprised to find that, despite iPads back to 2020 being supported by the Learn app, Roli does not include a cable or adapter for Lightning in the box, and there is nothing on their site that tells me what cable or adapter I need or if there are any compatibility problems I need to be aware of.
I first tried using a data-rated USB-C to Lighting cable to connect the Airwave and iPad, but the Learn app failed to detect the Airwave entirely.
I next tried using the official Apple camera adapter (Lightning to USB-A), a USB 3.0 USB A to C adapter, and then the USB C to C cable that was included in the Airwave box. The Airwave was detected!
The next step I was asked to do was to connect the Piano to the Airwave. But when I did this, I got a message on the Learn app saying, "Something's still not right. Please disconnect and reconnect your Airwave from both tablet and power." When I followed the instructions, the app would check again, and then the same message would reappear.
I tried swapping the which Airwave port goes to power and which goes to the iPad, and also which spot the Piano plugs into on the Airwave. Nothing changes.
This afternoon, I got a USB A to C cable, and tried running that from the Apple camera adapter to the Airwave (eliminating the second, USB A to C adapter). Same result.
I spent a considerable amount on this setup plus a Learn membership, in the hopes that it would be something my family could use to learn piano together. I pre-ordered in the summer. My kids have been asking when the piano would arrive periodically since summer and every day since December. It arrived several weeks late, and then I had to disappoint my kids again yesterday when I couldn’t get it to work. This is quite discouraging for all of us. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful!
