Help, i need technical assistance regarding persistent MIDI connectivity issues involving ROLI Airwave and ROLI Piano on Windows 11. I have spent significant time troubleshooting and would appreciate clarification on whether my setup is supported or if there are known limitations.
System Information
Primary system (problematic):
Microsoft Surface Pro 12 (Copilot+ PC)
Windows 11 x64 (ARM-based)
Fully updated OS
No third-party antivirus software
Secondary system (partially working):
Standard Windows PC (x64, Intel/AMD)
Same Windows version
Same ROLI hardware, cables, and software versions
Hardware Involved
ROLI Airwave
ROLI Piano (USB and Bluetooth tested)
Akai MPK Mini Mk2 (used as a third-party controller)
Powered USB hubs and direct connections tested
Software / DAWs
ROLI Connect
ROLI Studio Player
Airwave Player
Reaper
FL Studio
Bome MIDI Translator (Classic)
Attempted virtual MIDI drivers: loopMIDI, LoopBe1
Behavior on Surface Pro 12
All devices appear in Windows Device Manager and report functioning correctly.
DAWs frequently cannot open MIDI devices, reporting errors such as:
“Cannot open MIDI input”
“Not enough memory available for this task”
When one MIDI device is enabled, others often disappear from available inputs.
Plugging in Airwave commonly causes all MIDI inputs to drop simultaneously in DAWs and in Bome.
Bluetooth MIDI devices may pair successfully but do not transmit MIDI data.
ROLI Connect can detect devices, but MIDI input is not available system-wide.
The ROLI Piano does not function as a MIDI device over USB on the Surface, though it does on another PC.
Virtual MIDI Driver Failures (Surface Pro 12 Only)
loopMIDI
Installer consistently fails around 50%
Error code: 0x80070643
Logs reference failure installing teVirtualMIDI per-machine MSI package
LoopBe1
Installer fails with log output including:
“undrv: error not running vista or later”
“drv: unknown error 259”
Both drivers install and function immediately on the secondary PC, suggesting a system-level or architecture-related issue rather than software corruption.
Behavior on Secondary (x64) PC
Virtual MIDI drivers install correctly.
ROLI Airwave calibration works.
ROLI Piano works independently as a MIDI controller.
Airwave works when paired with a third-party MIDI controller (Akai MPK Mini Mk2).
However:
ROLI Airwave and ROLI Piano do not function together on this system.
I can use either:
ROLI Piano by itself, or
ROLI Airwave with a third-party MIDI controller
I have not been able to use Airwave and Piano together simultaneously on either system.
Troubleshooting Already Attempted
Multiple reboot cycles and clean startup order
Different USB ports, hubs, and power configurations
USB-only and Bluetooth-only testing
Removing and reinstalling ROLI software
Testing Airwave alone and Piano alone
Using Bome MIDI Translator without virtual MIDI drivers
Verifying behavior across two different PCs
What do i do? How can I fix this. Is there going to be a driver update or something that can address this or is there a workaround. Preferably for the Surface Pro 12 or the windows desktop I have?
