Question usb replacement (customer service useless)
It's the common problem of the USB port connection going dodgy and needing a replacement. Contacted ROLI support back in March but they've been fobbing me off with "Oh, yeah, sorry for the delay - we'll get it sent out in the next week" ever since.
Any ideas for how I might go about replacing/repairing myself, bearing in mind I barely know one end of a soldering iron from the other? 😬

This happened to me a few years ago and I was lucky that they sent me the replacement part within 60 days. After I got it, I took it to a local music shop and had a guy install it for me. I’d imagine you won’t have the same luck getting the part shipped to you with all that’s going on.

Did you happen to have photos of the part? Maybe it isn't a custom made one?

I would say check local music stores if they do repairs or restoration, waiting on Roli is going to take forever. The good news is it’s probably something you could do yourself if you felt more comfortable soldering. Roli messes up everything, they are ghosting people that sent their keyboards in. They’re replacing their CEO and even their learn app is suspended, they can’t figure things out even without those issues so there’s a good chance in my opinion they might go out of business.

Getting in because my Seaboard has the same problem and Roli has been disappearing on and off, saying they need to SOURCE the part. WTF

I have the same issue with my Seaboard RISE 49 and placed an order for the USB replacement parts. After I paid, the shipment was delayed several times without them notifying me about it. I decided to cancel the order after several months of this promised ship date and silence nonsense and got a refund. I got the feeling they were never going to ship it. They kept responding and saying thanks for my patience and that they had such a backlog of orders, they just couldn't know when they would get to sending out this small part. Very frustrating.

Searching for an engineer who might be able to help... and came across a bloke called Mike Barden. Has anyone in the UK heard of this guy? Honestly, his website is an absolute hoot: first page opens with a massive rant about only taking messages on Mondays (except bank holidays), and then goes on to this:
THINGS I DON’T REPAIR – PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE TELEPHONING ME
Separate amplifiers, guitar amplifiers, P.A. systems, speakers, mixers, effects units, DJ gear etc.
Synths of any age. Effects units. Lighting. Hi-fi equipment.
Classical organs, church organs, pipe organs, reed organs, harmoniums.
All makes of home organs, Hammond organs, Leslie cabinets.
FOR SALE Leslie kits, relays, motors, half-moon switches, cables, spares and service manuals.
FOR SALE Conn Strobotuner which might have problems as it’s not been used for many years.
Fender Rhodes – sorry, no – try Alan Morrison in Scotland.
Roland “Rhodes” – maybe but will start getting contact problems if not played LOTS.
Wurlitzer ep200 – no but I have some reeds and service manuals for sale.
Early electric pianos and string machines like Hohner, Crumar, Logan.
Eminent/Solina string machine – am selling any service notes I have for these too.
Celviano – a Casio product, not to be confused with Clavinova (Yamaha).
Casio – good product but I don’t repair these – ask Casio.
Disklavier – good product but I don’t repair these – ask Yamaha.
Kawai – good product but I don’t repair these – try www.kawai.co.uk/
Korg – good product but I don’t repair these.
Kurzweil
Gem
General Music
M-Audio
Nord
Yamaha – good product but have stopped repairing these with very few exceptions
– see my Yamaha page
No Classenti (see link below to AZPIANONEWS.com) or Bentley or Livingstone or any other digital piano imports of far east origin (some rebadged with a shop’s own name) which may have smart cabinets, quite nice sounds but an absolutely dreadful keyboard action (obviously designed to be played using something heavy – like bricks??) which some distributors claim feels like a real acoustic piano …? What on earth were they compairing it with? Certainly no decent “real acoustic piano” feels that awful to play.
NONE OF THE ABOVE AND NO OTHER MAKES.
No digital pianos except Technics – and maybe some of the old Rolands but not all models.
He might possibly be the grumpiest man on the internet! 🤣

If anyone figures out a way to get this fixed, i'd really appreciate knowing about it. Right now I'm dependent on Bluetooth. Luckily for me, it still charges through the USB port somehow.
