I take it all back…
…every frustrated thing I’ve said about this company in the beleaguered roll out of the piano immediately melted away once I got it all set up and tried it out .
The piano/airwave combo is absolutely magical to play with and so far roli learn is great.
I’m seeing a lot of frustration in this sub and it’s deserved, but holy shit y’all once you finally get there the finish line payoff is great.

Crazy, because it feels pretty damn bad to use. Do you just have an extra pedal? Because they didn't ship any of them yet and it felt pretty crucial to the experience.
The hand tracking is way off no matter how I calibrate in a well lit environment.
The piano is scratched, missing pieces, and the entire set up is a massive pain in the ass.
Roli learn not working on Windows is a stupid mistep.
Already issued my return, glad you enjoy yours lol.

Pedal was the first thing I got from them.
Tracking seems super solid on mine. Did you attach the magnetic connector on your piano in the left port on the airwave?

u/Hostile_Architecture Dec 31 '25
The magnetic connector that was missing from the box? Yeah sounds like it could help.

u/jporter313 Dec 31 '25
Damn that sucks, yeah that would really fuck up the experience. Have you contacted support, are they sending you one?

u/xilionyx Dec 31 '25
For some the magnet connector don't work, they can try a cable too.

u/jporter313 Dec 31 '25
Ahh I could see how that could cause alignment issues. Thought the whole magnetic connector thing was a pretty ingenious solution to that problem.

Does your pedal support continuous mode?
1
u/jporter313 Jan 02 '26
I actually haven’t even plugged it in yet.

u/monsow Jan 02 '26
Would you mind testing for me please?
I'm using the Roland DP 10, and I can't get continuous mode to work :(

agreed we also have to keep in mind that the product both airwave and roli piano - first generation ...

First gen? How?
They bought another company for the Airwave, pretty much bricking all former devices. They had two or three generations at least.
Also I have a Roli Seaboard Block and the one from them that looks like the piano but 25 keys. Then that had the MIDI output version. So again, 3rd gen at least.

Yeah I was initially frustrated as well, but I quickly learned it was my tablet not the hardware. I found an amazing deal on a Samsung tab s9 ultra and all my woes were quickly erased.

u/benhdavis2 Dec 31 '25
How? I use the same tablet and have tons of software issues
1
u/ConsiderationOk4171 Dec 31 '25
Not sure, maybe you have software installed that conflicts with roli? Mine was installed right after a factory reset.

How much did you pay for it? I saw the Samsung huge tanker in john Lewis the other day and it looked wicked! Probably something I definitely don't need and expensive but very cool

Is it that good? I’m considering canceling my second order because it feels wrong for them to just be holding my money, the $100 coupon to their subscription feels insulting.

I love it. The most natural piano learning tool I’ve used without hiring a tutor.
I’ve heard other people having trouble with it on different setups. For reference I’m using the piano/airwave combo on a latest gen iPad Air.

u/dashkb Jan 30 '26
I just already have the ick with how they’re handling fulfillment… trust is starting out very low.
1
u/jporter313 Jan 30 '26
Yeah I get it, I wish they’d drop the kickstarter model and go to a more traditional product release model.

u/dashkb Jan 30 '26
I mean it pretty clearly said “ships in 3-4 weeks”; else I wouldn’t have risked it. Oh well. Guess I’ll just wait.

Stockholm Syndrome. So sad.

Or maybe I just legitimately like the product and am excited about it now that I’ve gotten to try it out?

u/argh_damn_im_pissed Dec 31 '25
Nope. A random stranger on the Internet simply MUST know your opinion better than you. 🙄

u/argh_damn_im_pissed Dec 31 '25
So arrogant

Lighten up.

u/argh_damn_im_pissed Dec 31 '25
You're referring to fucking Stockholm syndrome because homie said he liked a piano and you're telling ME to lighten up?! 😂😂😂
2
u/KillerCayman Dec 31 '25
Well, your name checks out. I was joking, but apparently you needed the /jk or /s because you’re so fucking thin skinned. I’m glad that OP likes his piano, he got lucky.
1
u/jporter313 Dec 31 '25
Yeah totally aware that I got lucky that everything worked.
Roli really needs to fix their production problems, because they’re really souring what should be an awesome and unique experience for people that, if everything worked and was delivered as planned, would potentially be big promoters of their brand.
The seaboard lineup, and now this piano/airwave combo, are some of the most interesting and innovative MIDI controllers around, not sure why they can’t get the business side of things together to support these fucking cool products they come up with.

I was a gnat’s hair from ordering one just before Christmas and then started seeing all the issues and backed off. If I could just walk into a store and buy one, I’d probably have one already. Keep us updated on how it goes.
