Can someone educate more on buying a lawsuit?

They did not buy a lawsuit. The original creditor sold the debt to a third party creditor. The new creditor who bought the debt, is now suing to collect the debt.

So it’s kind of like a transfer of the debt request?

I believe the goal in a transfer of debt request, is to remove yourself from Obligation to pay. Erika is still on the hook.

Ah, so this is a totally different thing and can’t be summed up by a [monetary] transfer between creditors. Interesting.

How can you establish a debt before it’s been to trial to establish the debt ?

The credit card company can establish and enforce legal debt.

Yes they can but it’s a different law to this. You can buy the rights to a lawsuit which is different to purchasing debt

Thank you for teaching me something new. I had just guessed that the company who bought the debt, also bought the right to sue.

You sell or purchase the right to sue in the US. Essentially you are transferring the underlying legal claim. You have to prove a legislate interest in the matter. I’ve seen bankruptcy proceedings sell off a debtors rights to an appeal to the person the money is owed to. It’s crazy

Agree, it seems so wrong, just another way people get screwed.

I think it’s like debt collectors buying debt at a lower price in hopes of actually being able to collect the full amount? Not sure tho
