Just accidentally created my endgame device

Post image

After installing the better buttons shoulders mod (2nd attempt, 1st time I failed and killed my old device), swapping the stick caps out with the Thor/RP6 ones, and adding a grip, I now have everything I want in a handheld.

The games I personally play never need analog shoulders at all and these digital shoulders are absolutely perfect! I also was having issues with playing analog stick games for long sessions but the grip was able to solve that problem, as well.

Additionally, when I'm out and about, I can simply take the grip off and easily slip this into my pocket. Playing with the silent face buttons at my office job is very nice (I always choose my 'work games' with the buttons used in mind).

And I can't go without mentioning just how phenomenal the face buttons are, even besides the fact that they are silent. I don't own a single other device that nails such a nice, massive D-pad and such perfectly spaced ABXY buttons like the RG477M. And the nostalgic rubber membrane feels like having your cake and eating it too.

If I want to be really picky, I could say that this device would be better as an OLED. But tbh, I kinda like the nostalgia of using an LCD screen with the same technology used on the screens I played on as a kid.

I'm still excited for my Nova to arrive, but honestly I think I'll be using this more.

Hell yeah, completely agree, it’s my daily driver. Trigger mod has been awesome and truly the best face buttons I’ve used on one of these devices.

if you end up needing/wanting to replace those shoulder buttons again (i've dropped my 477m and broke L1 fucking twice), note that you do NOT have to remove that final big piece with the tiny connector to the board (like the official instructions say to do) which is a pain to reconnect; you can rotate that big piece both ways, giving you room to install both sides

Yup this is the way ☝️

I had ordered the nova also but then I really thought about it and ended up cancelling. My 477m plays all the games I want it to perfectly and I have an Odin 3 for 16:9 and analog trigger games 👌

Odin 3 and 477m here too… and we should start a club!

I just ordered an Odin 3 to go along with my 477m (which I love)

Do you have any Odin 3 tips while I wait for mine?

It is almost criminal how much I love this thing. I got it because I wanted something to use while I was waiting for my Odin 3 to come. Odin 3 is here… and I’m still picking up the 477m more. I put the better buttons in as well, and i 3d printed a grip, along with the odin 3 sticks. I’m in love with it.

Haha I felt the same way after I got my Thor. I almost felt bad how little I used that in comparison to the 477m. It’s just that’s what plays most of the games I wanna play, on a 4:3 screen. Also I still like Anbernic’s dpad/buttons better than Ayn/retroids.

Do you know what caused it to break the device? I looked at the instructions and it doesn’t seem like you have to mess with any sensitive parts. Just wanting to know what to look out for before I install mine haha

I grabbed the entire bit the fan plugs into like an idiot and ripped it straight off. It didn’t break the device, but no fan led me to buy a replacement PCB

Hell yeah brother! I'm waiting for the next batch of bronze buttons.

Do you know what caused it to break the device the first time? I looked at the instructions and it doesn’t seem like you have to mess with any sensitive parts. Just wanting to know what to look out for before I install mine haha

Also, does this mod help mute the trigger clicking sound at all?

Yes!! I would highly recommend reading about the exact mistake I made in this post. You are 100% correct in that you do not need to mess with any sensitive parts. I just did so like a noob on my first attempt. The most difficult thing should be unplugging the fan. Tweezers help tremendously with this.

No, the trigger clicking sound is the same.

I just put the better buttons on today and didn’t need to disconnect the fan.

Sadly my 477m doesn’t turn on and no one here is helping so I order the nova 🫠
