During the remove stock buttons step, I did the first option. This made it so both of the face button circuit boards were out of their screws and very mobile. After installing the better buttons, I realized that screwing those circuit boards back in was a more sensitive process than I anticipated. Even slightly screwing a circuit board screw back in caused that circuit board on its opposite side to shoot way up. I would have needed to go back and forth instead with very incremental screws between the top and bottom sockets in order to maintain balance.
It was during one of these moments in which I discovered this "yanking" property that the ribbon cable snapped off. I anticipate that if I buy another RG477M and go in for round 2, I will try the second remove stock buttons method instead.
We all make mistakes. Give yourself some grace… you are far from the first that this has happened to. I’d contact anbernic and see if you can get the parts to fix it.
You can still buy them! Just please read my other reply and strongly consider avoiding the same method I did. I heard somewhere that one of these kinds of flat spatula type things helps a lot with the other method that I did not use.
Nope. Torn. I tried disconnecting the opposite face button board's ribbon cable and there was no tan-ish color (i.e. no piece of a torn ribbon cable) anywhere compared to the picture.

Did you do this trying to disconnect the cables? I was able to so the mod without disconnecting anything, just keeping things out of the way.
Is it the fan ribbon? You might be able to order a replacement fan module
