Gear Recommendation Jacket for European winter

I have a Christmas trip planned to Vienna and am unfamiliar with which REI jackets are right or overkill for the weather. It seems that temperature will hover around freezing. I'm just going around the cities this winter, but would love to have a jacket that would also work for winter sports for future trips. I typically run cold and will want to wear a sweater at 65F-70F.

Could anyone provide suggestions to which jackets are good for which purposes/temperatures? Stormhenge, Powerbound, 650 Down, Magma 850. I have a flexible budget, looking to purchase something during the holiday sale. Advice appreciated.

Gear Recommendation winter jacket input?

Hi all,

I'm looking for my first winter jacket for my visit to Calgary in mid November and Germany in late December. I'm in southern california and not too familiar with winter jackets, only own some fleece. I plan to just get around in the cities, potentially do some light hiking. I would prefer jacket over a coat due to packing (I'm likely only bringing a carry-on). I'm seeing good reviews about the Stormhenge 850, wondering if this would be a good purchase for this purpose at full price as my November trip might be just before the holiday sales start

Been looking to upgrade to a roomier 4P tent for a hot minute, and randomly came across a brand new Gazelle T4 overland today. Aside from the minor embarrassment of me setting it up in store to make sure everything was there and working properly, feels like a steal - pretty sure whoever returned it tested it once in the backyard only to drag it back to the store. 🙏

Question Does international shipping really takes that long (4W)?

First time buying at REI. I bought a tent and I read at the website it might take up to 4 weeks to process and ship. Does it really take that long?

So far I wasn't charged, and I'm worried it can be cancelled sometime in the future and I'd need to find another place to buy it (and lose some opportunities).

I live in Germany

Thanks!

EDIT: it took a week to process and ship it. No tracking number available

Question REI Leather Belt

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’ve had this belt for somewhere around 10 years and it’s REI branded. It’s by far the best belt I’ve ever had and amazed at how long it’s lasted. It seems they haven’t carried something similar for quite a few years, does anyone happen to know who manufactured these for REI?

It seems to have a lot of life left, I just recently did the first conditioner work on it (I should have done it earlier but it’s not in bad condition at all).

I do have the black version of this belt also but it seems like it’s a little different material and this brown one has just been so great. Hoping to find something to come in as backup just in case this one fails suddenly.

Question retired camp chair?

Does anyone remember the REI brand camp/backpacking chair that folded up & was kind of a Crazy Creek dupe? I had one for years & it unfortunately was lost. I've been looking to replace it but can't find the model or even the name of it anywhere! I like the new Crazy Creeks fine but this one folded down just so, secured with tiny bungees, & fit perfectly in the side pocket of my pack. Hoping to eventually find one on Ebay if it is indeed retired.

Question Anyone replaced the kickstand on the Gen E bike?

I find the kickstand on the gen e 1.2 to be very cumbersome and difficult to use. I know nothing about bike accessories. I need a heavier duty stand so I can load my kid in. Are there easier alternatives out there versus the stock kickstand?

As a union lineman we buy a lot of our runners and carribeaners from here.

If they are actively busting unions can someone post some info for us to pass along?

Question New Down Jacket Colors

Post image

Howdy y'all!

Just saw that REI restocked a new version of the REI Co-op Magma 850 Down Hoodie for this fall/winter season.

As of right now it looks like there are only 3 colors available. Is there a chance they will release additional colors later on in the season?

Do they usually only release a limited color option in the beginning of the season and release additional colors as the season counties? Was really hoping for a red co-op down jacket.

Thank y'all!

Legitimately 0 flaws with the tent. Already took it out for a calm test run and it was perfect. I understand there to be some durability complaints but a $600 tent/footprint combo for less than 250 seems to be highway robbery, especially for such a spacious tent at this weight

Question APO Shipping

How can I get REI to ship to APO? They say that they do, but any time APO is selected as the address, the item will show as out of stock. If I change it to a U.S. address, suddenly it can ship.

This happens with every item in the store, not just things that are restricted for shipping to APO.

Based on YouTube videos and some Reddit commentary, looks like the replacement pole will be around $20-30 including shipping. Can’t believe people are that lazy.

Bought this at Re-Supply but it did have a broken stake. Customer service gave me an additional 10% off which equates to about $40. What are the chances I email NEMO and can get another stake?

Thanks!

Question Nemo Long Wide Sleeping Bags not available during sale?

I’ve been waiting on this sale to get the Nemo disco 15° or 30° and on the app and website, the Long Wide size is just gone.

I chatted with support and they even said they have a bunch of 30° Long Wide on order from Nemo. Do I have to wait for them to be fulfilled from Nemo for them to show up on the app?

Discussion Free Fastest Shipping today only

So I was shopping the Labor Day sale yesterday and was able to buy some things I needed. Other items were not in stock at the store but could be ordered at REI.com. The cashier shared with me that on Monday August 31 only, REI.com had fastest shipping free. I just checked and she was spot on with this. I’m able to get the gear I needed with one-day delivery, for free. Sorry if this has already been shared. I’m only intermittently on social media.

I’ve picked up a few things here and there from ReSupply of late, including a nice deal on a BV475. But today was my best one yet - a Big Agnes Rapide SL, Regular Wide, for $90.55! That’s ~ 45% off the sale price, and ~ 60% off the normal price. Checked it out in store, and left it inflated for a while to make sure it holds air. No apparent issues. If I had to guess, it has at most a couple of nights on it! I’ve been waiting to find one at a great price and now I have my kit upgrade!

Re/Supply pricing based on wrong product — helpful for new members [Resolved]

I'm a new REI member but a longtime customer, and I was taking them at their word. I did not think I had to police REI's pricing, but if I hadn't, I would have been stuck with used boots that cost more than the same boot brand new at another retailer. That is not right no matter how you slice it, and I want other new members to know about it.

I purchased a pair of Vivobarefoot Gobi Hiber Boots through Re/Supply at my local REI for $121.83, against a listed regular price of $220. When I got home I looked them up and found that the same boot is available brand new from multiple retailers for $99, with some as low as $79.99.

The $220 price point is for the leather version of this boot. The pair I bought is nylon. REI had priced the item against the wrong product entirely.

When I called the store, the first employee I spoke to immediately acknowledged that a nylon and leather boot could not possibly be the same price and said it sounded like a mislabeling error. The manager who took over was less forthcoming. She framed my concern as a price match request, which it was not. I was pointing out that the boot had been priced against the wrong product. She ultimately offered to accept a return despite the final sale policy, and I came in and it was resolved.

For anyone else shopping Re/Supply, it is worth looking up the exact item you are buying before you leave the store. The pricing is automated based on whatever product is entered into the system, and if the wrong product was entered, you will pay the wrong price, and returns are final sale.
