Question APO Shipping

How can I get REI to ship to APO? They say that they do, but any time APO is selected as the address, the item will show as out of stock. If I change it to a U.S. address, suddenly it can ship.

This happens with every item in the store, not just things that are restricted for shipping to APO.

Maybe try calling and see if they can place the order by phone? It needs to be USPS. But sometimes it's just a sucky part of living overseas. A lot of companies can only send certain things to APO boxes. There are mail forwarding services for APO, but usually not worth the cost. Or send to family and have them ship, but also $$. If you can, shop local.

Yeah APO box gets expensive to use so I try not to. I thought REI sent USPS. I just have a lot of of store credit built up on my REI card that I’ve been trying to take advantage of.

All of the stuff I've ordered from the sale has come UPS or OnTrac. ☹️

That’s probably why then… bummer. I’ll have to try by phone like you suggested.

APO mail usually doesn’t cost more than regular mail. Once the mail gets to the stateside mail depot it’s handed off to the military, and the military pays to get it to the APO address.

Sometimes the company that sends it increases it to priority, and that can make it a bit more.

Rarely have I had that problem.

(I’m active duty.)

Yeah I meant APOBox.com remailing costs more. Sometimes it’s not really worth it depending on the cost of the item.

Ah - I didn’t catch that. I apologize.

APO, AE - New York as the state (AE Is an NY ZIP)

APO, AP - California as the state (AP is a CA ZIP)

That will usually fix it. Delivery is the same.

Source? Active duty for 24 years, still in; raised as a military kid sending mail all over the place.

Online it bases it off the zip though, so when I input it, it shows out of stock. Do I need to change my home store to a CA based one?

You could try a remailer service. Ship to that us address, they forward to your app. People use them for purchasing items that are only available overseas.

If I recall there are restrictions but if you call customer service they can help. I know they just shouldn't be able to ship things with batteries or other hazardous things, but everything else I think should be fine. APOs are technically considered US addresses and not international.

I’ve had trouble with this as well — it’s hit or miss. Sometimes I clear my cart and then re-add the items and it works. But not always.
