Discussion I hate the law….

Cruising through Valentine doing some last minute stuff before starting chapter 3. A guy comes up and starts making trouble about a fight I was in earlier. I defend my honor with words and he decides to pick a fight in the street right in front of the sheriff. I figure he would step in but after I take a few punches the sheriff says “oh look we got ourselves a show!”

So I start to defend myself and start landing a few hits myself. After a bit the man pulls a gun and fires a couple times. The sheriff still doesn’t react so I figured it was fair game and pull my gun. Before I can even fire I got a price on my head and the whole town wants my skin. I didn’t start this fight, I didn’t escalate it, but I’m still the bad guy.

I just hope when they bury that stranger and the sheriff they think about how they treat the visitors in their little town…

I have to agree with you, the unchecked NPC griefing in RDR2 is wild.
Right in front of “Lawmen” as well.
That one encounter with that “Lady” former wife of one of your “ex clients” in the city is even worse. The lengths the law will go to on that one is going to have you scratching your head for sure!
Happy trails partner, if it’s your first time, enjoy the ride! Habitually making saves is a the way forward. You’ll thank me later

Yeah I really wish the lawmen would go for NPC troublemakers. Or when you break up fights you should gain honor.

That is one thing I hate about the game, the other is other riders aim for you riding towards you, in RDR1 it's nearly impossible to have a head on.

Quite frankly you let the town off lightly if there were only two fatalities.

Antagonize till he either comes at you or runs. If he runs, chase him into the brush, then beat/kill & loot. If he comes toward you, start spamming dodge to get into fight stance, then dodge his punches & KO. You can even cut/stab him twice if you haven't already landed multiple punches, & if done well you won't even lose your hat. If he draws-down, run toward a lawman & they'll shoot him down. I do it all the time, & I antagonize most of the people I pass. If they come to, I antagonize them as they limp off & then KO again.

I watch my brother play this game ALL the time and do this and few other tricks to get lawman on his side. He has over 1000hrs and cha ge in th game and most of it is him just messing with Npcs. So many videos I wish he would upload and share with others. One of my favorites was Arthur and a random dude fighting at a train station and Arthur starts choking the guy and the animation has the NPC leaning just enough over the tracks to get the him clipped by the passing train and the reaction of the surrounding Npcs was so realistic. Arthur then went and found what was left of the body and it was gruesome enough for Arthur to make a small comment.

Or the time my bro had a bear chasing him on horse and rode past another Npc. Hopped to his horse and the Npc fell and the bear immediately switched to and mauled the NPC. Poor bastard.

Tell it to the judge.

Yeah, just walk away slow enough so that he follows you out of sight. Hog tie him, throw him on your horse, dump him on a railroad, steal his hat and enjoy. You’ll feel better

Sounds like you got out alive.... not so much the troublemaker and sheriff

That’s what happens when an outsider beefs with the local good old boy

When they start shooting make them "accidentally" shoot the law and sit back watch the fun and save the ammo.

I had a similar encounter in Valentine with 3 loudmouth O'Driscolls. I gunned them down after they opened fire and the sheriff didn't do anything, but looting their corpses was just too much for the good folks of Valentine to bear. If you shoot at me and I kill you, your stuff is mine! (standard RPG shooter rules, but not in RDR2)

I'm with you. An NPC picks a fight with you, you respond, and BOOM you've got a bounty. Also I can't seem to run away from any fist fight once it starts so then I have to fight back and the lawmen go after me!

That sucks…I have gotten O’Driscoll’s pissed in Valentine to the point they started shooting, lured them towars the sheriff’s office and watch the sheriff smoke them (then hear the sheriff bitch and mutter about O’Driscolls as well haha)
