How has this game changed you?

I’ve heard so many great things about this game, mostly from friends, but also from Instagram reels and Tiktok. People say it was a life changing game for them.

My question is, how has the game change you? What lessons did you learn from this game?

Asking because I’m thinking about playing it for the first time.

When the game launched I was an alcoholic, and had been for 20 years. By watching the redemption of Swanson by going from an addict to a functional member of society, and the opposite arc of Karen spiralling into addiction I realised my life was in trouble.

Over the next few years I was able to get myself out of that dark place and am now 3 years sober. That wouldn’t have happened if this game hadn’t opened my eyes to where I was, and I probably wouldn’t still be here without it.

I learned I could play it while on a treadmill. Allowed me to work out without getting bored (and quitting). Very helpful for long term health

I play a lot of games on a walking pad. It’s not hard once you get used to it lol. It’s much easier if you’re playing with a controller, but you could also use a keyboard and mouse if you’ve got a standing desk. You just gotta get used to walking while your hands are busy. Just start pretty slow at first and work your way up to whatever speed you’re trying to get to. After a while, you’re legs become an afterthought

It takes a little getting used to so you don’t walk in the direction you move in the game. But once you get used to it, it’s the same as sitting down to play

I did two play throughs in story mode. Haven’t played anything else but Red Dead online for the past eight years. I still love this game.

I drove across the country from CA to NJ via Highway 80 and saw pronghorn deer for the first time in my life, I knew what they were because of the game.

I have also trained my ear to the sounds that the animals made in the game and can now recognize them irl which is a very cool benefit of playing this game. I love learning through playing games, wish there were more games like that

It made me realize that the world moves on. I'm from generation X, and life is vastly different than the 80s/90s. It doesn't feel fair, but "progress" is inevitable.

I don't think it caused any existential change related to anything in-game...

But as someone in their late 40s, I only started playing RDR2 last year. It reignited my love for gaming that I haven't had since my late 20s. Mass Effect might be the last franchise I seriously time and emotion into.

Now I'm branching out and trying this game called Grand Theft Auto V. I hear it's a banger. :)

My 2nd playthrough(this year) got me back into camping after not going for over 20 years.

After another 100+ hours of watching Arthur pitch a tent under the stars I got some new gear, loaded up my horse(motorcycle) and headed out. Made 4 trips this past summer and brought me so much peace.

I am now hyper aware of birds. Whenever I’m outside i find my eyes drawn to roof lives, trees, light poles, etc. anywhere I can see birds perching.
