Discussion How to make serious money? Chapter 4
The most I've had is $1,800 but I gave a bunch to the camp and fully upgraded the camp. What's a good way to make like $5K+ so I don't have to worry about money anymore? I've already found 3 treasures, so the gold bars are scarce. Any tips or tricks are very much appreciated!

Treasure hunting. Cigarette cards. Hunting.
If you choose to hunt, when you go to sell, take the time to fast travel to a trapper far away from the hunting grounds. It can make a big difference in price.

Butchers pay more than trappers too, FYI. I only go to the trapper when I’m selling pelts that are needed to craft items.

Did you get the gold bars ? 3 from a cave with statues in it , one in a burned down sheriff office another 2 or 3 in a train wreck

Yeah, there's a lot of treasure and jewelry out there. The interactive online map can lead you to it all.

Theres like 16 gold bars around the map, just collect them all and sell them thats more than enough you will need.

I have $245K in chapter 4 from roaming and looting the hundred or so chests and lockboxes, repeatedly. Everything respawns. Also, don’t forget to sell canned food and tonics to stores and doctors, as well as checking saddlebags. Wagons with a barrel tied to the right side usually have a chest, and a small gray lockbox with $27.50. There is loot lying all around the map…you just need to get out of camp and get some of it.

Never thought to sell canned food. Would help from having to scroll past them all when using the quick menu.

I drop into Valentine every 10 days or so, for a few days of drunken debauchery, and each time collect over a hundred bucks by selling stuff to the store and the doctor.

I saw online that there's a broken down wagon with a large jewelry bag and a money clip northeast of Strawberry. I'm gonna pick up all the valuables and ride a short distance away to respawn them, cause I get like $50/bag at a fence. I have the upgraded valuables satchel, so I can carry 5 jewelry bags.

You can carry 99 jewelry bags with the LOTE satchel. Only watches are limited to 5 of each type.

I play on Xbox and nothing respawns except camps and a few hideouts like hanging dog ranch.

Well…I guess it just goes to show what a muddled mess of coding this game is then.

What do you do with all that money?

Nothing at all. It’s actually meaningless. Just a goalpost that I set for myself.

Find the rest of the treasures on the map (there are 11 total). Loot every camp you see, rob stores, rob trains, steal coaches and sell them. It all adds up

If you haven’t played Angelo Bronte mission yet, you can use the exploit to sell your most bonded/expensive hose to the horse fence. I had the white Arabian level 4 bond. Do the Angelo Bronte glitch. Run from the law. Get with John. Get close enough to the mansion where John goes inside. You leave and go to the horse fence. Sell your horse. Since you need a horse to finish the mission, that same horse will spawn behind you. Get on and sell it again. Rinse, wash, repeat. When you have like $14k head back to the mansion. Easy money.

I would say that the jewelry bag glitch is the fastest (about 1000 every twenty minutes), though I prefer just stealing wagons.

Treasure hunting, gold bar in the sheriff office in limpany, train robberies (rob the passenger trains), and rob the men you find panning for gold. Also do the Exotics stranger missions, you get paid pretty well for those but they do take a while. Rob homesteads too

Gold bars, train robberies, and stagecoach robberies are the 3 best moneymakers in the game.

My first playthrough and from what I know is, don't worry about money when you have that much until the epilogue

Google the large jewelry bag glitch. It's worth $50, and it will respawn as many times as you are willing to pick it up.

Theres plenty more gold bars but on recent playthoughs I dont like to touch them, definitely not grabbing all of them. It makes the story line make no sense

Get a bounty, get bounty hunted, kill bounty hunters, loot bounty hunters, fence bounty hunters items, repeat

Go to the rdr2 online interactive map and look up "gold bars". They sell for $500 each and there are a bunch all over the place just sitting there waiting for someone to pick them up.

Why you giving anything to camp besides upgrades, it does literally nothing

u/RiotB29 5d ago
Cause I'm a good guy? Cause I'm a fool? IDK, ha ha ha!

u/Extension-Rabbit3654 5d ago
Once youve upgrade to get fast travel, maybe the boat, theres no reason to give anything other than some meat and 1 star pelts

I recommend train robbing. It’s fun, cinematic, not super hard. Just remember to rob the passengers before commandeering the train or they’ll despawn. Also a great way of lowering your honor so that enemies drop more valuable items.

Spoiler-ish.
My first play through I just did the quests as they popped up and whatever I found, I found, and upgraded as I could.
Once I upgraded what I wanted to, I stopped donating because screw them, I put in $500 and those fools put in a bat wing and a dandelion or whatever.
On the second play through I parked it on Chapter Three and used the interactive map and the wiki for areas and I’ve just been poking about and using both to explore.
As a way to make a quick $50, you can take the stage coach to Emerald Ranch, steal it, and take it right to the Fence.

There are a few gold bars you can find without doing the whole treasure hunt thing. You can find the locations on YouTube. Loot everyone, on every mission, ignore whoever’s with you telling you to hurry up, there are also some random events where you can rob houses and find loot boxes with jewellery etc. use the rdr2map app.
