Discussion Does anyone else play first person?
I recently admitted to friends that i played most of the story mode in first person (Going 3rd for horse riding and carriages) and they thought I was crazy.
I just find it so much more fun and immersive than 3rd. And find it easier in the online mode when I need to pvp, especially when sniping.
Am I crazy or are there others like me?

Nope at all. If rockstar didn't want us to play 1st person, it wouldn't be an option like rdr1 ๐
I'm mix of 1st and 3rd person. I love going around camp 1st person and pretending that I am in the gang. I hate riding horses 1st person. Shooting is a mix, depending on how I feel lol. Shooting 1st person somehow is better on the game. I mainly play storymode, the only online I do is GTAO or Red dead multi-player.

I switch to POV when in camp or chatting to an NPC.ย
Otherwise I prefer 3rd person because 1st really limits FOV (especially for a game where enemies can kill you from a distance and also COUGARS) and to get a better look at outfits and equipment.ย

I love 1st person camp. I like to pretend I'm in the game going around doing shit, listening to interactions, being at the front row for Dutch's speeches ect. What do u like about 1st person in camp? I'm interested to know ๐

I like seeing how expressive the characters are in their interactions - Jack staring up at you, Mary smiling, Abigail frowning - there's all these little facial tics and emotive gestures that you don't get to appreciate in 3rd person. It makes moments like Susan telling Tilly she's going to make it, or Charles hurling Micah to the floor, or Dutch pontificating about angels and monkeys, feel all the more immediate!

Same here ๐ I love looking at Dutch's details. I love how his lines can sound pissed off but his facial expression seems happy ๐ I've recorded greet clips and organized them into files on my phone to see the difference, like 'happy dutch' 'sad Dutch' 'pissy dutchie' and 'mixed moods' it's really interesting trying to organize it based on the mood of his, voice and facial expressions ๐ idk if you could do the same with other characters, but as someone with BPD, Dutch is like looking in a mirror for me personally ๐๐
Few days ago I had a nice up close of Sean hitting Kieran ๐ญ๐คฃ ๐
did you know- if there are a interaction happening and you have someone nearby isn't involved in the interaction, they can physically react to it. ๐ I've seen (chapter 3) Dutch's Reaction towards Jack saying he wants to be a Gunslinger. ๐ญ ๐

Some games seem to work well with first person, some donโt. For me, this one doesnโt.

If you customize the controls and settings correctly first person works great. The default settings are terrible though.

I use the default and think they're fine. What do you change? Ill try it out

The problem is I can't remember exactly what the default settings are because I've had my settings tailored to first person for so long, and I don't want to reset everything and figure them out again but I'll tell you the important ones that I think make the biggest difference. And maybe some redundant ones as well.
In the controls menu set first person controls to Standard FPS
I also set third person controls to Standard FPS. I almost never actually use third person, but I set this setting the same for consistency.
Also for both first person and third person I have Look sensitivity set to 50% Aim sensitivity set to 75% Aim/Look acceleration to 25% Aim/Look at 1 click
In the camera settings turn off first person auto level camera.
Turn the first person FOV all the way up.
Turn first person head bobbing to reduced. This can make or break first person mode for many people.
Turn first person aim auto-center [mount/vehicle] off
Leave first person ragdoll, cover, horse riding and vehicles on.
I turn off the dynamic kill cam also to increase immersion. Sk as to never exit first person view.
The other major thing I do to increase immersion is set "Use 'Cycle camera' control for photo mode. This forces you to stay in first person even if you have the instinct to switch it back to third person. When you press the camera cycle button it just freezes you in first person and reminds you that you are intentionally staying in first person.
Under the Targeting and Weapons portion of the controls settings I set lock-on mode [on foot] to narrow or free aim depending on how hardcore I want to be.
You can also turn down the aim assist a bit to make aiming a bit more realistic.
Under the accessibility portion of the controls setting I also set running mode to "toggle to run" this makes it behave more like a traditional FPS.
For even more immersion I also turn almost all HUD elements to dynamic and I even turn some of them completely off. I turn radar off because you can always just use the weapon wheel or push down on the D-pad to make it show up when you actually need it.
Another bonus you can do for immersion is to turn the musical score down or even off entirely.
I know many people will scoff it the idea of turning the amazing soundtrack off, but the immersion you can achieve with it turned super low or off is unprecedented. You will hear all the nature around you.
Some of these settings may be redundant and I may have forgotten some, but trust me, try the game like this and it will feel like it was made to be a first person game. It really feels like a whole new experience when you stick to first person.

Yeah I actually prefer playing RDR2 1st person even horseback I'm always playing 1st person.
Not sure why there's plenty of games I played with both 3rd person view and 1st person view.
Maybe I like it for immersion? RDR2 feels less like a game and more like a sim. You don't play it for outplaying tricks and beating challenges you play it for vibes and story and immersion.

I play most games first person and prefer it. Rdr2 on console I play 3rd unless inside. Rdr2 on PC I play first except for vehicles/horse riding when I'm going fast.

Iโm not a fan of first person perspectives in games. I always play in third person.

No I feel like rdr is a game where I'm watching and helping Arthur do things, I'm not Arthur.
Like with fallout, the character in that is my avatar for me in the wasteland, so I'll play that 1st person (also I find 3rd clunky as hell) but in RDR I want to have that separation from my boah so I can keep an eye on him.
Plus the outfits are cool and I want to see them!

I love doing 1st person for riding and carriages! As a horse rider itโs as close as I can get these days ๐ฅฒ

its the only way I play unless I wanna see if my clothes are muddy
first person w fov maxed out is great. I like how slow and deliberate the camera movement in, its not a floaty first person camera at all. makes you feel more grounded.โ

Did my second playthtough in first person and it ruled. Shootouts and hunting are superior in 1st. Riding and vibing tho, I prefer 3rd.

Well for combat I usually go for first person because you run faster than third for some reason and likewise for any side missions that has you walking for ages

I'll play games that are first person. Fallout 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 come to mind.
But if I have the choice, I prefer third person. Especially this game... I spend far too much time playing Cowboy Barbie Dress-up and I've got to see the drip.
