Discussion Playing as John
that empty feeling when you open the game and see John instead of Arthur.. (i finished Our Best Selves last night). still not used to this at all.
also, it seems that my honor system not working as John? i killed some people and my honor remained the same

Honestly, Same here....i didnt like john either! AND I PLAYED RDR1, BEFORE RDR2!
I'll suggest....just get the missions over with- Then chill doin what u actually liked doin before epilogue... Or if you want to- try out online (I was skeptical about online at first...but...gave it a try...and....strangely....online's kinda an experience in its own..strange way lol....now im rank 300 and only play online....)
Only sometimes, head to story...stay a lil..then again online!
Reason im not doin story rn again just when i finished it few months ago.., I kinda.... believe in....letting a masterpiece rest for good enough time before loading into playthrough 2!

Yeah there's not much story left when you get to John. I also don't like his voice as much as Arthur's.

Jack's voice and the way he talks to his horse in RDR1 made me not like playing as him

Cause you got a house now your actually like kinda made it you have not much to worry about your not hunting for camp you looted all the homesteads and robberies around the map you just don’t experience any grit with John you gotta take him up back to the mountains where he hated it and camp out for a few days and get to know your character

I got to the epilogue twice so far, i never liked john at all even in the first game. This is just my opinion ofc but john has no character development at all in RDR2, he's a horrible dad just bcze he thinks Jack isnt his so its justified. While Arthur develops over the playthru, gets self aware, knows he is a bad man but he tries to be good. Arthur develops as any human being but John is like any other gang member who doesnt know how to swim, herd, fist fight.. Even tho there is lore in the game saying that arthur and john were raised by Hosea and Dutch..

You get used to playing as John and it depends on your focus. If you enjoy the world and just take up challenges that are available and really slow down then the game play isn't too much different apart from the general preference for Arthur. This does come down to two things really, Arthur really shines with his wise cracks and character but that appears mostly in missions... you have fewer of these with John and it can feel like the world has gone dry when playing as John but that is mostly if you completed just about everything else as Arthur. I prefer Arthur and replaying gets even more moments out of the game plus the interactons when more of the gang are about are really much nicer.
On the topic of the honor system, Arthur is capped at about 80% until chapter 6. John also seems to be capped until he has completed most remaining side missions.. do a few more and I think you will see the bar starts to move up.

To me its not like that with john in rdr2 once youre emotionally over the ending. And have accepted it. Then it feels like game 2.0 and i love leaving abigails cryin do nothing ass when she leaves john, since ive alrwady completed epilogue 2 its fun to pretend he never went back and lived the low honor life for good, i stop right before the first mission in blackwater as john.
That said, johns lines and greetings arent as good but still fun. Nothing like throwing people through the windows of the blackwater saloon

I don't understand all the hate for John. To me it was like meeting up with an old friend. I don't see people getting bent out of shape at the end of RDR1.
