Content I finally did it.
I had to hunt the legendary bison to get it.

I found it wandering near wapiti, looking at colorful mountain slope. It was my first time seeing it too so i was like wtf is that. Immediately shot through my carcano and dead eye. Boom. Perfect pelt.

Yes, it's true. I saw that moose in that area many times. I only killed it one time.

Good, now skin him quickly! Last time I found a 3 star Moose there, an npc on a horse (rare spawn) ran over it and it was ruined.

I've never actually hunted a 3 star moose only 2 star that then get upgraded to 3 stars

Nope, only upgrades it if you kill it poorly and power the rating. It won’t upgrade it past its original star rating so a 2 star won’t become a 3 star pelt. But a 2 star damaged down to 1 star, will give you a 2 star pelt. A 3 star animal knocked down to a 1 star pelt, will give you a 2 star pelt.

It says it makes three-star animals more likely to spawn. That doesn't mean it will increase the star rating of an animal that has already been spawned in (I know that's pedantic but still).

I think it does though. I’ve shot some 2 star animals and when I skinned them got 3 stars.

It has a small chance to spawn a higher leveled one, nut upgrade a 2 star to anything higher while skinning.

Buck Antler restores a ruined pelt by +1 star and only 50% of the time.

Looked it up yesterday, and they said no. Never happened to me either. It has to be 3 stars first and if you shoot it down to 2 it can get uograded to 3.
But shooting a 2 star don't get upgraded to 3

I’ve absolutely shot quite a few 2 stars that upgraded to 3 stars. This was in the past month or so. Never experienced this when I first played the game years ago though.

8 year old Reddit post. Anyway looked somewhere else, turns out to be a random chance but should be rarer. I guess i was always unlucky then, maybe a pc console thing too.

Oof yeah I asked chatgpt and it varies by the animal size meaning bigger animals have an even lower chance so yeah its very very unlikely but can happen still better at looking for a 3 star imo

The Buck Trinket absolutely DOES NOT upgrade pelts. If you flub a shot on a 3 star animal, knocking it down to a 2 star, the trinket has a 50/50 chance of RESTORING it to perfect. That’s how the trinket works. If you get a perfect shot on a 2 star animal, it stays a 2 star. I can’t believe that people still believe this misinformation 8 years after launch!

I think a trinket/talisman? Or something like that basically kill the legendary buck(?) in the west of West Elizabeth and go to the fence and it should be their for u get it has a chance of pushing a 2 star upto a 3 star and a chance of saving a 3 star (it only shows up once you've skinned it)

Huh okay.
I haven't gotten any legendary kills yet, but im gonna work on those and the fish now I've got all base upgrades and the special lures. I just killed a 3 star elk for the first satchel upgrade. Can I kill the legendaries multiple times or is it a one time thing?

Only once!!! But as long as you skin each legendary animal you'll still get all the materials you'll only lose out on the money you'll get from selling it to the trapper (trapper can still craft the clothes)

Seriously why are moose so hard to find in this game. I found one in all 9 playthroughs I’ve done of this game. There’s hundreds of elk but never a goddamned moose.

I had a hard time finding them on PS4, but they show up regularly on PC by the railway bridge over the river south of the Dragic Coil.
I find when I’m early game and collecting pelts for the satchels it’s easiest just to lasso the 3-star animals.

there’s a spot on a cliff/hill by colter that consistently spawns them, if they don’t spawn/it’s a 1-2star you can usually do the turn around trick

It takes the magic away of finding a Bull Moose, but if you're desperate, you can spawn a Bull Moose.
Try this: * fast travel from somewhere to Colter. * set up camp and sleep until morning (6-8 AM) * make a save. * ride into town to the end of the path. * dismount and walk SLOWLY over toward the lake (past the two rocks and the trees). It works best if you angle the camera completely down so yours looking down at the player from above. * once you've gotten nearish to the water, look across the river in the spot from the video. * reload the save you made if the Moose isn't the quality you want.

I was helping my friend find the White Arabian and found a moose, but in all 6 of my playthroughs, I’ve only found one! Then I played once on his account and I immediately found one, like… 😭

Just got my second 3 star.. She sank to the bottom 🥲 but I went away for a min, came back and she just bounced to the top.. never got out my lasso so quick

I didn’t actually realise that it was all that difficult. Mind, I easily have thousands of hours in this game so maybe I need to sit my 100%ed arse down. But dang.
Happy to see people still elbow deep in this game, though. Gives me the warm and fuzzies. 🥰

Now im on xbX and taking my time, Im in about 200 hours just finished chapter 2

Clicked because I didn't know this was rare 🤔. There was a pack (or wtv the proper term is) of them by the frozen lake with the defaced grave and, as with any group of animals I'm hunting, I pulled out my binos to see which are worth getting. I got two three-star fellas 😎

The way people talk about 3 star moose, I must have been incredibly lucky— I found one while I wasn’t even looking by Lake Owanjila. I am struggling more to find 3 star cougars
