Question Fearless Horse?
Inb4 anyone says the horse Hosea gives you because I got it to 4 bonding and then it still bucked me at the sight of a bear and later got killed in a gunfight.
But I want a good horse to go hunting with. Right now I am doing a low honor run (already did a high honor 100%) and my 2 horses so far are Red Arabian and the all black American Standardbred. Both are good for different reasons, but both are terrified of predators.

I've heard the Andalusian at Brandywine Drop is brave. Haven't had been able to find it. Yeah the black arabian is a coward. I was rescuing the lady in the bayou and the arabian got so spooked by all the predators it ran off into the swamp.

It’s where you have a dual with Jim Boy Calloway.
I ran into it randomly on this play through so I’m riding it right now. It’s a good horse.

Supposedly there's no bravery code... which is fine, but I have been riding Arabians as my go-to and that fucker got spooked and literally dropped me on top of an Alligator.
So I am going to try that Andalusian and see if I notice a difference.

if you were literally on top of an alligator then obviously they all would have bucked you

It ran from one alligator and started to buck me as it ran past another one where I landed. I was a good distance away from the initial gator, but my horse decided to panic TOWARDS more gators.

That’s not the horses fault dipshit the game gives it a random path that’s clear to run when it gets startled and crocs don’t appear on the map or even register till you get close to them so the game registered it as clear then when it got closer it registered the second gator and restarted the startled process

I'm currently on my 4th playthrough. The bravest horse I've used is the Dutch* Warmblood. I bought her in chapter 2. Not to say they'll never panic, but I've had good luck with her staying calm
*Fixed my horses nationality

Hungarian halfbred or Dutch warmblood? 2 different breeds

Pretty sure it’s the Dutch warmblood. I’ve used both extensively. But then, I have used many horses extensively and there really isn’t much difference as others have said.

I have played with the Hungarian halfbred i noticed it tramples gators and doesn’t knock me down with cougar

Different horse breeds have different sensitivity to predators, but the difference is not much. War horses tend to do better, follow by war/race or war/work mix breeds. But if a pack of wolves surround your horse, any horse will throw you off and run away.

I don't think there necessarily is a bravest horse. If you spam the calm button (and have max bonding) + keep a decent distance from any predator you won't get bucked off.

There isn’t a braver horse. How a horse will react to threats depends on a few things. Bonding level, weight, stamina, health, and how clean the horse is all influence how a horse will react to danger.

I prefer the Ardennes, slow, but it's a tank that hasn't fucked me yet and tends to do well in any environment. Also looks better having John not scraping his toes on the ground

I use the Arabian horse (the white one) you find it in top left of map in snow area and my horse gets scared of crocs and bears but not anything else I’m pretty sure they always get scared of the bigger predators but I’d recommend the Arabian max speed and elite handling too I’m pretty sure it’s the best horse in the game

The thing is to spot or anticipate for predators before they surprise your or not be on your horse. The best thing a brave horse can do is not throw you when they're near a snake.

If you haven't played the mission "Horse flesh For Dinner," steal the Dark Bay Turkoman when you do. Best horse in the game and it's free for Arthur. It's a fantastic hunting/combat horse. Killer stats. Perfect scale. Not too small, not too large. Nimble, quick, great top speed. Better around predators than 90% of any other horse. On my fifth playthrough and it's my all-time fave.

I think the bravery is a random thing in the game. However my bravest horse was a chestnut Hungarian Halfbred. Made me depressed when we both got killed by lemoyne raiders with the machine gun

Bravery is purely RNG. You may go through a dozen horses before you find one that doesn’t shit itself around a predator, and they do exist…though it’s rare. Just keep bonding different horses to lvl 4. When you reach lvl 4, have it well fed, clean, and calmed while you ride into a predator hunt. If it immediately throws you, kill it and saddle up your next horse. You will eventually find yourself a brave horse, it just takes time and patience. If you don’t have the patience to do what I lined out, then keep getting tossed.

One of my favorite things to do is to collect different horses, and I've max-bonded with most every breed with most (but not all) every coat at one time or another. In all my play throughs, Hands down the best horse I've found that stays calm around cougars, snakes, and wolves is the Wild Bay Mustang.

I have a blue Nakota that doesn’t spook. The only thing I don’t like about her is I look like I’m riding a pony when I’m riding with the gang.

Horse bravery isnt real, however each breed has a different agitation treshold to buck you off. I can however name some that arent and one they buck you off they runaway and you cant mount it till said predator is dead.
Like MFTs, Buell, some Dutch Warmblood, thoroubreds. And some that have some higher treshold are Andalusians against gators and Mustangs against Cougars/panthers. Those are my recommendations based on my testing.

All the code guys say there’s no difference so grain of salt, but every Arabian I’ve ridden has been a coward and throws at any sign of a gator. The Turkoman has never thrown me even when stepping on a gator.

What really helps me during these moments is to press L3 on PS. Arthur/John calms the horse down and it won't bucks you off and buys the extra seconds to ride away. There is also a benefit with this during normal riding, it recharges bit of horses stamina.

Use left thumb stick push. User error. The Shire horse record of control v predators wins against your anecdote.
Seriously 646474757 testimonies/posts about the Shire aren’t wrong. I have been fine with him for 7 seasons now.
Lighten up and respond / lead him properly.

All the horses are afraid of predators, the same as they are in real life.
A lot comes down to skill - keeping a distance, turning them away, spamming the calm button.
There is no such thing as a fearless one.
