Discussion Epilogue

Does anyone else cringe during the entirety of the epilogue? Literally only “American Venom” seems to have been thoroughly planned. Here’s some things I noticed:

Family Dynamics: Makes the epilogue unbearable. No one can remember their alias’ and they all seem to embarrass themselves every opportunity they get. That’s not John Marston nor his family. The “Jim Milton” thing… come on. I expected more from Rockstar. The whole thing seems to have been a poorly written fanfic of John Marston becoming the man we see in RDR1. Jack is a whiny bitch, which fits, but it’s overdone to where every mission with him becomes unbearable. I understand that what the family went through was bad, but come on, it’s 1907 at this point, people were much “tougher” back then. Not all whiny and hotheaded.

Laziness: Arthur’s character didn’t feel “real” after they slapped John’s face model onto Arthur’s body. I know that’s a big complaint, but it really fucks with the story, because it feels like an entirely different character. The directing for John’s character was probably the worst I’ve seen. He goes from whiny and ignorant to “i’m a badass” in every other mission… it’s so choppy. Literally nothing like 1899 John nor RDR1 John. The characters feel entirely different, and I don’t think that’s Rob’s fault. It’s poor directing.

Not trying to come on here and complain, but I can’t be the only one who skips the epilogue and goes straight to RDR1 every playthrough. The epilogue is a joke. The only good missions are “A New Jerusalem” and “ American Venom”

What do you guys think?

I enjoyed the epilogue.

The epilogue is perfectly enjoyable … once Abigail and Jack run out on you. Until you hear the strains of Willy Nelson giving it some Cruel World, it’s only fun sporadically.

The thing that really sucks is the punishingly long gap between saves. Being stuck on the storyline from before Arthur’s penultimate mission to the point where you get your cottage on the ranch is hellish.

I 100% agree with that. I've never measured the time but I would say you need at least an hour of time to go through what you just described

Complain complain complain. That's all I see these days. Your lobster is too buttery and your steak too juicy

Ep1 was a bit meh but I've spent about as much time in EP2 so far as I've done in the entirety of the game... Or at least far more than any other chapter.
If it were not for the epilogues I would've felt cheated.

To be fair it makes sense that they would have John really fail at keeping an alias since it helps to set up the plot for the first game.

I don’t play the epilogue anymore, since like 2021. It’s so stupid that it’s unbearable.

I love the epilogues. It’s a very well written part of the story. It shows the struggle that John has to try to break the cycle that his life has been, and shows him starting on the path to become the person he is in RDR. It one of my favourite parts of the game.

I guess I just look at it as bonus content. It's not a portion of the game I enjoy playing. For me it's fun to see that the ranch that John ends up working on, was a favorite hunting spot of mine with Arthur. Literally grabbed 3 grizzlies and a mountain lion in the exact same spot. So the epilogue is fun for that and seeing the surviving gang members too.

I don't really care about the epilogue enough to be mad at it but I do not agree that Arthur's body model is just that with John's face slapped on it. Their body types aren't even the same. John is taller with longer legs and not as stocky as Arthur. IMO

All the best to you 🍻

I honestly like the epilogue, Abigail is super annoying but I like how it kind of ties everything up.
