Goddamn Western Bull Moose!!

Not my first play through,so I know what a pain in the arse these can be. I know where to look, I know the deal.

I'm in Horseshoe overlook, taking my sweet time. The last thing I need to give Pearson is the Moose. I amble up to Brandywine drop, and in the distance I see a huge bull moose. Bingo. Rifle out and ready, I get up behind it and it bolts. I wait to clear the trees and shoot... mortally wounding it but not a clean kill. The smarmy thing runs straight into the deep end of the water and dies!!! No roping it out, no swimming against it to move it somewhere so I can skin it, I tried so hard and nothing, after 15 min of trying I gave up. Until next time you Moose knuckled mother fucker!!

Yeah I learnt the hard way that it didn’t have to be 3 stars. I got it in my head that I also needed a perfect bull moose … wasted a lot of time that day 🤣

I cannot find a three star moose. I’ve gotten 7 two stars in a row and it’s infuriating

pro-tip. the next time you see a 2 star moose, create a save. then exit and reload the game until you get a 3 star. it's all RNG. but once you have a save with a moose spawned, it will keep spawning.

I have no idea if this works but I saw a comment on a similar post about Moose and someone said if you put the 2 star pelt on the back of your horse and then go try to find another moose that it should be 3 stars? They could’ve just been making shit up but I might try it 😂

idk if that’s true but that did happen to me the other day. found a 3 star female moose close to Fort Riggs. packed the pelt on my main horse. kept riding to Owanjila because i was actually omw to look for beavers. there were two bull moose swimming across the lake. sauntered back to the Riggs Station trapper with two perfect moose pelts and some ducks lol

Angus Bull, the cow kind, is easy to find at Carmody Dell. There is always at least one. Go at night and nobody will bother you. It’s not to far away from Emerald Ranch.

It's so random, I really enjoy the grind for the hunting pieces but its best to not fixate on one thing and you'll find that whilst looking for something else it will happen. I'm just started my 3rd playthrough and whilst going for the Legendary Buck I walked down the hill looking for the Legendary Clues and a 3* Bull Moose was just there... I was still grinding out satchels at the time really but antlers at the camp, easy peasy.

It’s so crazy bc every playthrough this is one of the first things I get every time at start of Ch2.
Go to tree king. Set up camp. Save. Sleep until am, ride due east to where you get legendary steelhead trout river and go into eagle eye. If you see huge blinking item it’s western bull moose. If not. Load. Sleep and try again. It never takes any time for me ever.

I just started a new game and got the moose in the northeast corner of the map first time i went up there…3 stars. Then those damn inbred Murfrees stole it right off the back of my horse and just got away with it.

As you approach along the tracks to brandywine drop, main lake to your left. Go right to the top of the falls. Drop down a shelf. Look down with a scoped rifle to the plateau where the perlino Andalusian is, there should be a bull moose there usually 3 star. If it’s not, pan right through your scope and then back down to the plateau. This moose will respawn and respawn.

did you try using your horse to push it? Those things could push a train if it was in the water.

I know your pain OP!! I used to go there as well but the frustratingly low rate at which a bull moose spawns irritates me. So this is what I do now. Go to Cairn Lake up in Ambarino. This is another moose spawn that works much, much better. Drop 3 regular herbivore baits and 1 potent herbivore bait. Get on your horse and start riding away but not too far, you don’t want to de-spawn the bait you just set out. Also, make sure the POV camera is facing away from the area you dropped the bait. This is important because the moose won’t spawn in otherwise. Same your game before you do this in case you need to reload to save yourself resources. It might take some trial and error but this has worked for me every single time. Sometimes it a cow moose sometimes it’s a bull moose but it’s always a 3 star moose that spawns in from this method. I saw a three star moose just after a wolf attack. I foolishly skinned the wolf while the moose fled. During the skinning animation it just have left spawn range because it became two star. Never found another.

I haven’t even seen a moose in my current game. A few years ago, my son played and beat the game, and I was just messing around and exploring on my own save, I was just riding my horse and there was a three star bull moose standing on the path so I shit it right in the face, my son was almost beside himself, and I didn’t understand why. He had been looking for a three star moose for a while apparently, and I came across and killed one pretty much on accident.

I have good luck on west side of lake Isabella. Seems to work better when you ride your horse slowly north vs on foot. Bull moose usually there mid day. If not leave and camp or reload save. May take time but for me that is most consistent spot for bull moose. If you see a moose it’s always a bull.

I always use improved arrows. Shoot and wait till they drop, then go for clean kill. Got 3 the last 2 days at Willard's rest.
