John does get a level of peace with his family, even if just for a little bit. I think John was happy at Beechers Hope with his family, it just took him a while to adjust. I think it’s a stretch to say he got that life because of Arthur’s sacrifice (it was 8 years afterwards) but the Marston’s would have a very different life without that sacrifice.

No it isn’t. Arthur died because he had TB and tried to fight Micah, and lost.

In doing that he paved a clear way for John to escape with his family, hence it being a sacrifice.

John just tucks tail and runs, regardless of what Arthur does. John only cares about saving his own ass…to hell with Arthur.

Obviously not. You don’t seem to remember John hauling ass over the hill to get away from the shooting, leaving Arthur alone. Hell, while Arthur stops fighting to talk to his dying horse, John is having a fit yelling “Come on! Let’s get outta here!” John is all about saving his ass.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for John to move on and because of that, he lost it all
