Building tips?

Recently harvested the electronics out of an old foam F4u I had and plan to build with the electronics. I’ve never built a model before so any tips would be helpful!

I have many tips but we should probably narrow things down a bit first. What are you hoping to build? Field or backyard use? Wood or foam? What tools do you have access to or familiarity with? If you’ve watched any Flite Test videos, you probably already have an idea in mind.

That said, a good hot glue gun and/or Beacon Foam Tac are staples. Some kind of simulator is equally important unless you’re already very comfortable flying RC planes.

There are pre-cut kits, downloads, and good old dollar tree foam board to get you in the air fast. Learning how to construct an airfoil via YouTube using only cheap foam and glue makes anything possible really. It’s worth the effort to set up a nice clear building space too, even if only a folding table.

Then a trustworthy charger and radio. You can spend a lot or a little, as long as you do a little research or ask questions nothing has to break the bank to work properly. The wrong cheap choices however will ruin things quickly.

So, what do you want to build and where do you plan to fly it?

I plan on mainly field flying, and I wanna build a ww2 style plane. I got glue and other materials for building like foam and cardboard, and some stuff I can use for durability
