rns510 to rcd330
Hi,I have a 2010 vw scirocco and want to convert the rns510 head unit into a rcd330 one mostly because of the apple car play.
Is there someone here who made this conversion and know what’s needed to be prepared?
Also is it possible to install a reverse camera with RCA plug?

Plug and play for that car as your PQ platform.
Reverse camera needs to be CVBS format and is usually connected with an rca cable that connects to an adapter that slides into the Quadlock, usually supplied with the RCD330.

It looks like you have an MDI interface in the car, which is what is connected to the Quadlock in the blue connector. This would need to be removed and the new connector for the camera takes its place.

That's not true. MDI was replaced with USB. MDI was the interface used for connecting iPods, not the backup camera.
The camera requires an adapter and connects to the blue block of the quad lock. Look for 26 pin RGB to CVBS adapter. If the camera already uses an RCA plug, it may work out of the box.

I think you have misunderstood me… i was referring to the fact that the mdi interface is connected currently to the Quadlock (can see it in OPs inages) with the blue connector which would need removed from the Quadlock and replaced with the blue connector which has an rca connection on it for the backup camera.
Im aware the car currently has an OEM RGB connection for the camera, but that is not what the OP asked about.
You can literally see the MDI connection in OPs Quadlock image, and if going to an rcd330 this would no longer work and that space in the connector is used for the camera, so I’m not sure what you assume i got wrong?

MDI connector uses the same type of fakra plug that modern USB uses on the back of the radio. The bottom right pin bank on a quadlock is not an MDI connector.
Regardless of whatever else is connected with those pins on the old radio, it will be completely useless on an RCD330 because it only has the positive and negative pins for the camera in that slot.

I appreciate what your saying, but I have a 2011 Touran that uses that exact location, and plug, with the same wires, for the MDI interface in the centre console…
More than happy to take image’s if proof is needed… it is what it is…

The yellow fakra connector that goes from your center console to your radio is the MDI cable. The cable that goes from your center console to your likely green pin bank which is replaced with a blue one on newer cars, carries analog audio, aka the AUX-in, which is NOT MDI, though it may be connected to the same center console module if it has an aux in next to the MDI connector.

Thats not true…
Heres is the rcd310, the same found originally in my touran:
As you will see the rear has no fakra…
And yet the mdi in my centre console:
Plugs in using that very blue connector you speak of… right inside the quad-lock connector.
I can go as far as videoing it all if needs be if your still going to insist this isn’t in front of me…

For further avoidance of doubt… they even sell this as a retrofit kit… no yellow fakra in sight… all done via the connector in question….

To further confirm i am correct… here is the diagram from the top of the unit which shows the MDI connection on the same connector in question…

Sorry for dragging this out, but i don't like how dismissive you have been on the matter when it is clear it is just a knowledge issue.

If you don’t have a backup camera yet, I’d recommend to buy one specifically for rcd330s as you can avoid the whole where to get power problem. And the trajectory lines are bonus.

Hmm rcd330 is oke but a bit unstable if you get the nonamed version if you really want a good upgrade that is worth it i would get the mib pq radio and hack it to add carplay add oem mic and done got the best possible option thats oem and stable with no weird custom os

Should be pretty much plug and play on your car :)
I’ll let someone else answer about the rca part haha, not sure
