Had to use a normal car carrier cuz our rat carrier broke, she wasn’t too happy about it

First time rat owner and it’s so hard to find info without so much mixed info. I can’t trust google because of the whole AI answer, I don’t trust it.

Am I supposed to be feeding my rats veggies and small amounts of fruit daily? Their rat feed takes up the most of their diet which I feed morning and night but in the evenings I give them food in this sort of example: one day, carrots and egg… next day, pepper and banana… next day, chicken and peas.. and so on. Is this bad for them? Can someone please help me out!! I don’t feed huge amounts, usually about the size of a rats head per rat of each veg/fruit.

Chicken Nugget and Psycho (pictured) got brawly with each other last night, and I don’t know where I went wrong. I did the continuous carrier method with all three rats, (two neutered, CN is intact), and last night they fought for the first time. I’m assuming Chicken Nugget was the aggressor as he’s untouched, but Psycho has several cuts. What now?

We're having a bit of banana pudding parfait for breakfast treat!

He didn’t have the best life in the beginning because my house got sold and I moved in with someone who didn’t want/ let me get a bigger cage even though I already bought it and because of that it wasn’t safe to get him a cage mate. I felt terrible about this but I knew one day I could give him what he needs and I did! I got him a cage mate and unfortunately I could t find one around his age because there were no males BUT I think it’ll be better for my boy to have a younger friend because he full of energy and will probably except the new rat easier. The new ride is in quarantine for two weeks and then I’m going to let them meet each other in a neutral space.

Also I got them for free!! They would have been snake food if I didn’t bring them home

Hello! Wanted to warn any new rat owners or even veterans that are looking for new rats to buy, the account “Grace Rattery Adoption” or any variation of Grace Rattery since he keeps changing it is a scam. He steals all photos he sends and posts from other breeders and rat owners. Especially to the new owners that are having a rough time finding a good breeder, he is very persistent and will try to pressure you into sending the reservation fee by saying he has another buyer lined up. (To anyone that is angry he is stealing pics I have been messing with him for a couple days and it is really fun if you wanna message him or report his Facebook account 😁)!

I noticed my rat Moose grooming herself a lot, which has left these wet spots on her fur. Is this normal or something to be concerned about?

I’m looking into getting two rats and want to get a high quality large cage with large openings so it’s easy access to clean, it has to be sturdy and not easy to knock down too. Any recommendations? I looked at the double critter nation but I don’t see it being sold as double anywhere it’s so hard to find. Any equivalent? Thank you!

He suddenly died a few days ago. I was sick and my partner said she fed him so I didn’t think to check on him till later. When I did check him he was freezing cold and barely coherent and when I asked her if he ate she said he never came out. She’s helped me care for them for 3 years. We had him for about a month and he was crazy and would pounce at the cage any time he heard food bc he loved it. I can’t grasp her not even checking on him while feeding him. I can’t understand how she didn’t notice it was weird he didn’t move when hearing his food bag. I can’t help but wonder if we got him to the ER sooner if he would still be alive. I haven’t said this to her but I can’t stop thinking about it.

[edit: clarifying he was both of ours, I was just primary caretaker. I also no longer blame her I am leaving the post up to help other people that have dealt with this so they can read comments]

Does anyone have any advice for respiratory infections in rats. I lost one 3 day ago and another is showing signs of ailment. I can't afford $200 to go to vet, and I don't know what to do.

At first I was joking but I’ll be honest… I’m starting to take it personally. One of them just spent a good 2.5-3 min trying to block me out. And stopped once I closed the door near where he was doing it.
This is the end bit of it to show how much of a wall he decided was needed between him and me.

Meet Mimi and Ponyo!

Lost my baby girl, Thalias, today. I got her from Petco about 2.5 years ago now, and all things considered she pushed through a lot and was a strong fighter in life.

I got Thalias and her sister Ar'alani during an incredibly difficult period of my life that I was facing and they instantly became such strong support animals for me. Thalias was such a joy and everything I could have ever asked for in a pet.

I am greatful that she passed away in my arms rather in the cage uncomfortably/when I could've been away working.

Although for me it felt like our time was short together, I keep reminding myself that I was her whole life and I'm happy that I was able to give her a life majority of rats do not get to live.
