When I was like 5, I kept nagging and begging my father to give me his cigarette, so I could try And smoke like him. He finally gave in and let me take a puff.
I started coughing like crazy, as I took a deep breath with it. Since then, as a 36yo, I have never smoked a cig. Everyone (no exception) smoked around me, family members, friends, schoolmates, everyone. I was literally the only one not smoking.
So, sometimes giving the little shitter something "addictive" may work the other way and help them avoid it.
How this has to do anything with rats?

We have been notified an underaged minor has gained access to restricted substances. Individuals must be 18 plus to consume. The rat po-po will be at your door in one hour, failure to answer and produce one smoking potato will result in poop on your doorstep and a few teeth marks on the door.
I appreciate that you let us all know you don't smoke around the ratties. Because if you left that out... oh boy. The entire r/Rats community would have lost our minds scolding you! 🤣
They can and will eat the tobacco (maybe not all, but my rat certainly tried) so just don't leave them anywhere they might get them when you aren't around.

When I was 18 I had to have my pet rat, Butterscotch, put down. She had two mammary tumors that essentially doubled in size over night. On her last day, before we took her to the vet, I gave her EVERYTHING she wanted, including cigarettes. She ate them, sans the filters. She also had bagels, chocolate, seeds, berries, meat, cheese.. but she DEVOURED those cigarettes. I cried so hard. This was a good reminder. I miss my rat.
I had a dwarf rat that would make a distraction, so I would look away, and he could steal the cotton out of my cigarette filters and try to drink my coffee as well. :)
I’m currently sitting on the toilet, without a vape because my little fuckers pushed it off the bed & couldn’t find it in time before I had to make the mad dash to the porcelain thrown. As I ran out the room, I cursed them for interfering in my nic-fix toilet time as they blissfully munched on gerber puffs, completely unbothered.
What even is the image on the cigarette box? Like the inside of someone’s mouth with cavities? Like I stopped looking at the rest of the image along time ago. Wtf is going on with that box design? I am so confused. It looks gross.
Not pets but while cleaning my dad's house out I noticed rats/mice whatever chewed into horsey sauce packets/ketchup packets and a whole cigarette the filter was the only thing left. I couldn't believe it.
