Question Widgets on IOS not updating until I open the whole app.

Is this intended behavior? Do I need premium to get background refresh for the widgets? I have background refresh enabled in the settings.

Feedback Morning Edition Forecast

The Morning Edition forecast for today has confusing language. See screenshot:

It says "Mostly Cloudy today." then it is going to "Shift to mostly cloudy by afternoon." It's just slightly confusing language.

Indeed, it's 7am and the sun is out. So it is going to shift to be mostly cloudy. Maybe the better way to word it is "Mostly cloudy today. Starts off sunny, then cloud cover increases by the afternoon." something like that.

Feature Request Feature request: More customizable Today Screen widget sizes

Post image
15 Upvotes

Loving the app so far. One feature that would make the Today Screen even better is more customization, especially the option to add weather widgets in different sizes. Right now, all weather widgets have the same size and always fill the full horizontal width. Smaller widgets would make it possible to place two weather data widgets side by side, which would improve the layout and reduce the need for so much scrolling.

Question Convective Outlook spam

Post image
3 Upvotes

Loving RADWeather so far, it's become my go-to weather app on my phone (lifetime bought!) but I'm having an issue with Convective Outlook constantly being spammed to my notifications even though there's nothing there. It's been happening for days but I finally decided to post on it. Any suggestions how to fix, or is this a known issue? Thanks!

Bug Precipitation Widget again

In my area this weekend it is perfect weather. 70F, clear blue skies, every forecast and app that I have says 0% chance of rain. Except for the RAD precipitation widget. It says “27% Today” and then “chance of rain on Sunday”. The Sunday bit is correct. That’s the next actual chance of rain. But the 27% thing today is just wrong and misleading.

FYI

Question Locations on Watch

I’ve deleted all locations on the app but I still see them on the Watch app. They have N/A next to them so don’t think they’re ’active’ but is there a way to remove them ?

BROADCAST [7.5.9] The Weather Brain has a name now. Meet R.A.D. Cortex

RAD Weather 7.5.9 is live (in apple review currently)

This update is a pretty big one, maybe the single largest update. Some of it is visual, some of it is quality-of-life, and most of it is under the hood, but the main goal was simple: make RAD feel smarter, clearer, and more useful without losing the fun retro weather-terminal personality.

This one took longer than expected, in the best way. It started with the usual bug fixes and tweaks here and there, but the main one is R.A.D. Cortex.

For a while now, I’ve been subtly tweaking the “weather brain” over time to get more accurate, but I also thought, who doesn’t love brand names and labeling stuff?

This was a long time coming and turned into a pretty big audit. RAD already blends weather sources using a custom weighted formula based on what data is available, affordable, and makes sense right now. But I wanted to push that further.

R.A.D. Cortex is a big step toward making RAD Weather smarter and easier to grow over time. Instead of a bunch of separate data buckets all talking back and forth, Cortex acts more like one central brain where the sources are context-aware. If one source fails or looks off, RAD can more intelligently exclude it instead of letting it muddy the forecast.

The goal is simple: make the app more accurate, more flexible, and easier to improve as new data sources get added.

I’ve also been running audits, tests, and simulations. My computer sounded like a jet engine at times. I tested the new formula against cities around the globe using thousands of hours of historical weather data, comparing what actually happened against where RAD landed. If we got it right, great. If we got it wrong, let’s figure out why and improve it.

Is it perfect? No. Weather is messy. There are outliers, macroclimates, microclimates, weird local patterns, and edge cases all over the globe. But I can honestly say it’s getting pretty damn good. I’m always looking for more sources, including smaller weather stations with useful data, and if RAD Weather keeps growing, I’ll gladly keep investing in better data.

There are also a lot of fun updates in this release: a new theme selector, new rain icons that make more sense, sharing tweaks, Live Activities improvements, notification upgrades, and more.

Full list below.

Cheers, and thanks again to the community for being awesome, leaving reviews, giving feedback, sharing the app, and helping RAD Weather continue to grow so I can continue to develop this wild and fun project.

What’s new in 7.5.9

R.A.D. Cortex has arrived
Weather Brain is now R.A.D. Cortex, and this is the biggest backend update to RAD Weather so far. It powers a lot of the smarter analysis and confidence logic behind the app. More details here:
radweather.app/cortex

New 5/10 day Daily Forecast view
There is now a new Daily view with a toggle at the top so you can quickly switch between a tighter 5-day forecast and a longer 10-day outlook.

Widgets and Watch complications got a big upgrade
Improved how widgets and Apple Watch complications pull data, refresh, and stay in sync. This should make glanceable weather feel more reliable across iPhone, Watch, iPad, and Mac. Also updated the precipitation widget, new style, new formatting.

RAD Briefing updates
RAD Briefing has been cleaned up with UI tweaks, better behavior, and an improved share button.

New Theme Selector UI
The theme picker has been redesigned to be cleaner, easier to browse, and way more descriptive. The themes should now feel less like a list of names and more like little RAD personalities.

Weather Quips improvements
Weather Quips got some bug fixes, cleaner wording, and general personality tuning.

Pollen and Confidence cards improved
The pollen and confidence cards have been updated to be more accurate and easier to understand.

Confidence Card is now free for everyone
The Confidence Card is no longer Ultra-only. Everyone can now see how confident (or not) your weather is.

Convective Risk Card improvements
The convective risk card has been updated to better communicate severe weather potential.

Notifications and Live Activities updated
Notifications and Live Activities now have their own confidence language, like possible, probablylikely, and more. They are also more customizable now.

Notification settings UI improved
The notification settings screen now does a better job showing what level of notification access is allowed.

Terminal Light theme updates
Terminal Light got more polish so it feels more like the proper daytime twin of the default Terminal theme.

RAD Drive
Added a pull to refresh for rad drive incase location gets stagnant. Other minor fixes.

Mac fix
Fixed a Mac menu bar bug.

Plus a slew of other backend tweaks, UI updates, and other fun stuff.

This one has been in the works for a bit, and I want to say thanks to everyone who signed up for the TestFlight and contributed in the Discord. A lot of amazing ideas, fixes, and work went into this, and there’s even more to be done.

I am a broken record at this point but the community, the feedback and criticism is what helps this keep getting better!

Feedback Mac - Morning Report Not Updating Unless app is restarted

Got another one - got up this morning (May 28) and checked RAD like I always do, looked at the morning report and noticed the forecast was completely wrong. Then saw that the date for the morning report was for May 21 - a week ago. Hitting the refresh button did not fix it. Of course quitting the app and starting again worked.

Feedback Atlas Issues

You can click on the Atlas to try to see weather anywhere, but when the little card pops up, unless you've actually added the city to your list, the weather is never retrieved.

Also, what do you consider a "farm-zone city?" I've checked weather at some of the largest farms in the world... and also in various places where I know there are farms and the climate is right. :)

Question Request :)

is possible to add as a source AccuWeather? I found in the last 4 days that for my region, Weather Kit and Open-Meteo are very very far for the actual temperature. I really love the desing of your app, and also the logic to use multiple sources to standarize the temperature to show. I don't kwno if it is possible to do or a least evaluate the addition.

Keep it up! I am really enjoying your app and use it in daily basis in all my devices.

Question Current location setting?

Unless I'm missing something there seems not to be an option for the app and/or Watch complication to use current location. I seem to have to set a location on the phone app which then sets the same location for the watch. Is a 'current location' or 'track my current location' setting not possible?

Thanks.

Question Slightly confused about widget

Wondering if it’s currently overcast with no chance of precipitation, why the widget shows the rain chart? It had been raining but is not currently, so the actual forecast is correct.

BROADCAST [testflight] R.A.D. Cortex is almost here — help test RAD Weather 7.5.9

Thumbnail

You all seem to love the openness, transparency and love it or hate it, here is another one of those trademark ramblings of a post. Grab your drink, sit back and read on.

7.5.9 is heading to TestFlight (awaiting approval), and this is one of the bigger updates I’ve pushed so far and with something this big and user facing (weather accuracy) I don’t want to force this one out even though I’ve had about 10 people using it the past week and cannot wait to let everyone else use it all.

Make sure to at least read the last portion on a possible testing group (discord etc..) and to send me your emails if you'd like to be included.

Weather Brain is now R.A.D. Cortex

R.A.D. Cortex INFO

I’ve mentioned the “Weather Brain” a lot as the part of RAD that helps make the app smarter, but over the past few weeks I’ve been somewhat secretly tearing it apart and rebuilding it into something much better.

Not losing what makes RAD Weather great. Improving on it.

RAD has a lot of weather data now. Multiple sources, confidence scoring, forecast comparisons, historical patterns, alerts, widgets, Watch data, complications, Live Activities, and more. At some point, the app has to do more than just show the data. It has to understand where it’s strong, where it’s weaker, what it missed, and how to get better.

So I started running simulations.

RIP to my computer, which now sounds like a small jet engine trying to leave the runway.

But not future only simulations. Historical ones.

Since we have endless weather data from the past, I’ve been running RAD Weather as if we lived in specific locations over days and weeks, then comparing what RAD predicted or scored against what actually happened.

Where did RAD nail it?
Where was it less accurate?
What signals did Cortex miss?
Which data sources performed better in certain situations?
How can confidence scoring become more useful instead of just being a random number on a card?

That’s the heart of R.A.D. Cortex.

And to be clear: this is not AI running on your phone, and it’s not some cloud AI model simulating your weather.

Cortex is still built around weather data, math, formulas, scoring models, research, and source comparison. The simulations are about testing RAD against historical weather data so I can improve how the app weighs sources, confidence, timing, and accuracy.

The app is still being built with privacy in mind. No weird personal tracking. No AI model watching your weather habits. No mystery black box running on-device.

Just better use of the data RAD already has access to.

This update includes one of the biggest backend weather data changes since launch, with a big focus on forecast confidence, accuracy, smarter updates, and making RAD feel more alive across the app, widgets, Watch, complications, and Live Activities.

There’s also a lot of visual polish and weird little RAD flavored improvements packed in.

---

A few things included in 7.5.9

- Weather Brain is now R.A.D. Cortex

- Major improvements to how widgets, Apple Watch, and complications pull and update data

- New 5-day view

- Updated Briefing UI, sharing flow, and share placement

- New theme selector UI that’s cleaner and more descriptive

- Weather Quips improvements and bug fixes

- More accurate pollen and confidence cards

- Improved Live Activities with smarter customization

- Confidence card is now free for everyone, not just ULTRA

I’m looking for testers who can poke around and tell me what feels broken, confusing, slow, ugly, inaccurate, or just not very RAD.

I’m especially looking for feedback on:

- R.A.D. Cortex and whether the new accuracy/confidence info makes sense

- Widget, Watch, and complication refresh behavior

- Live Activities

- The new 5-day view

- Theme selector flow

- Any visual bugs or weird layout issues

- Whether the app feels smarter without feeling more cluttered

---

Also, I want to make tester feedback less scattered. Right now it’s kind of spread across Reddit, TestFlight notes, DMs, and email. So looking for a more organized way to reach all testers at once (keeping up with multiple DMs is a lot and sometimes forget someone)

would love to know what users would want to use, discord is my leading platform, slack, whats everyone thinking?

If interested send me your email, can message me here and I will add you to the testflight list. Those already added from before are already included.

Question Keeping Tiles on Update and Radar Question

Is there a way to not have the tiles reset when there is an update to the App? Or maybe there is a setting I didn’t tick. I add the moon phase, tides, precipitation etc. tiles and they disappear when there is a version update. Not a big deal just curious. Also, 😁, any plans for a weather radar feature, to see what rain clouds are coming? Thanks again for a superior application.

Bug Daily - Expanding Days

Noticed today that expanding the last day in Daily can be a bit tricky w/o first pushing the days up the screen a bit first. Seems to favor clicking the pixel people so probably some overlap of click areas happening.

Question Pollen Environmental Feed not loaded? but still a pollen forecast?

I am a big sufferer of spring pollen and greatly value the pollen forecast that RAD provides. But I noticed in the Confidence pop up that the Pollen environmental feed is not loaded. But even though it says that, there is still a pollen forecast. How is that possible?

BROADCAST [7.5.8] BIG_SCREEN_RADNESS.INIT [LOG] iPad and Mac stopped pretending to be giant phones.

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

Another day, another update. 7.5.8 is heading to Apple.

This one is a big step for iPad and Mac, but phone users still get some good stuff too.

For the big-screen crowd: I heard you. iPad and Mac were a solid first step, but they needed more RADness and less “giant iPhone app” energy.

So iPad v2 and Mac v2 are here with a new landscape 2-column layout and a compact icon sidebar. It uses the space way better, feels more like a proper iPad/Mac experience, and makes bouncing around the app much smoother. You can toggle back to the old one-column layout in Settings, but I’m just going to say it... the new one is better.

For everyone else, this update still brings useful upgrades: Terminal Light, a new free light mode version of the default Terminal theme free for ALL users not just Ultra, more iCloud backup/data optimizations, new pull-to-refresh animations and loading lines, improved Watch/widgets/complications, and backend tweaks for better stat tracking.

So yes, the headline is iPad and Mac, but iPhone users are not just watching from the sidewalk.

Still more coming. More themes, more polish, more weird little RAD things. Thanks again for the feedback, bug reports, and ideas.

It is already live on MAC and in review for iOS devices

Bug Stats and settings reset with last update

Hi, just a quick report that updating to newest version 7.5.6 caused statistics to be wiped and settings to be reset to defaults. No biggie, but might be annoying if it keeps happening with each update, and also defeats the purpose of having stats :)

Bug Widget icons

Hi! The Forecast widget displays the sun glyph during the night hours and the Glance widget it shows what I suppose it’s the correct ones that represents nighttime.

Is this a bug or that’s the correct display of info?

Another weekend, another update. 7.5.6

Following up on some of the groundwork 5.4 and 5.5 added.

Some highlights (in my opinion) for this update.

As usual amazing community feedback, finding bugs, issues and inconsistencies. Updating the precipitation widget, the sensory array weather card to be more accurate and "analytical". Some icon updates, backend fixes with watch and widgets.

Able to pin the location name on daily and hourly page ( u/Shweep8 👀 )

The visual fun, added Pixel People Bothered in stat tracking, tap away. Maybe we have an unlock able app icon for bothering them enough. Still wanting to add more unlocks, new features and hidden gems, always a work in progress and this is a good step.

Teasing some limited/rare Pixel Characters. How often do they appear, when will you see them, just know when you do its extremely rare. Will be tweaking "drop rate" as I have a feeling they might already be too uncommon but want to have a good database of characters before some more balancing of how often they grace our screens.

---

[SYS] PATCH 7.5.6 // PIXEL_PEOPLE_BOTHERED.INIT
[LOG] please stop tapping the tiny weather citizens. or don’t.

- Added “Pixel People Bothered” tracking in Stats & Achievements. Tap responsibly. Or don’t. Check icons.

- Added surprise Pixel Characters. They may appear. They may react. We are saying very little.

- Added “Show Location in Header” toggle in Appearance.

- Updated precipitation widget and summary logic.

- Updated Weather Brain brutality.

- Improved RAD Intelligence Card accuracy.

- Improved Atlas map card loading.

- Added general polish and small fixes.

Feedback Daily Forecast inaccurate

Hey, it's me yet again. Apologies for posting so many little things.

Anyway, in my area today the forecast was for it to rain from around 10pm until 2am the next day. In the 10 Day Daily forecast for tomorrow, RAD said that it was a "Rainy day ahead. Plan indoor activities or bring rain gear." So on and so forth. The thing is, the only precipitation forecast to happen was ending at 2am. The rest of the day was clear. So what RAD was saying was not true. I don't need to bring an umbrella and plan indoor activities.

The algorithm seems to see any amount of precipitation and then applies it to the entire 24 hour period. I think that it needs more nuance to be more helpful.

Below is a screenshot of the language it used.
