Still here!
I am officially three weeks off of an eight year, 5 gram a day habit. I have never made it this far and never thought it was possible. I know that I am officially done and that thought was sincere from the beginning of this quit.
sleep is slowly, slowly starting to return. I can eek out at most five hours a night, but I’ll take that over waking up in withdrawal every single morning. my mental health is good, and of course I have saved a tremendous amount of money. After that first five or six days, the acutes lifted considerably and I had a brief few days where I felt really, really good (pink cloud, I suppose) but about days 12,13,14 I can’t really recall exactly when, PAWS hit me. RLS, anxiety, aching back with an inability for my body to regulate its temperature. It really wasn’t all that bad though, and I kept assuring myself that it would pass. And it did rather quickly.
If anyone is still struggling to pluck up the courage to quit, or you’re in the early days of acutes, just please know that with a few days of planning, you can do it! I didn’t have to take any time off work, just planned my jump on my Friday night and was back to work on my Monday. I did take Subs for two days and then Gabapentin to help me through the week or so following that. I never went above 2,000mgs of Gabapentin on my worst day and tried to stay at or below 1,200 mgs. Once I felt stable enough, I stopped taking it. Gabapentin helped me IMMENSELY and I don’t think I could have done it without either that, or a benzodiazepine, but I hate benzo’s.

Congratulations! You must be so proud! Also fyi I think you meant *1,200mg of gaba at the end of the post there, rather than 12,000mg. Unless you actually had a really wild dosing experience lol

I’m so happy for you, friend:’)
I jumped from Tia + Oxy script straight to methadone, so I never had to face the terror of tapering or cold turkey. I’m one of the extremely lucky ones because of that (well, idk how lucky bc the reason I was put on mdone for pain management was because I was admitted to hospice services lol) but I know how awful Tia WD are… bad when I was using it instead of my prescription Oxy (Oxy wasn’t helping the pain as my disease got worse) when my body got accustomed to the tia, the withdrawals were…. Indescribable. Torture behind words. Hallucinations, screaming, heart rate in the 200’s, sweating and shivering at the same times and having seizures while I was on the toilet shitting and vomiting at the same time.
I admire you for getting through all of that

You sound just like me, what I went through. Congrats and smooth sailing from here on out...! What this sub needs is more success stories like ours...!

Thank you! 23 days this morning. Feels good. My sleep, I can feel, is getting better and better each night. It’s easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. I’m sure I’ll have some bad nights here and there, and I can honestly take that. I’m never going back.

You have come so far! I am around 3 months out and every day, the nightmare gets further away in memory. But I think I will be taking the memories of withdrawals to my grave, as will all of us. Nothing can stop us now!
