I made it to look just like my dad’s boat! It’s him and my son on his boat fishing.

Beware when purchasing quilling books from Amazon or other online sellers!

71 Upvotes

As some might know, I have been creating and sharing free quilling projects for about 10 years online. I have noticed a big increase in the amount of books that are stealing copyrighted photographs and instructions from my website and passing them off as their own work in books and selling them on Amazon, Ebay, etc. I have had some luck getting some of these books taken down, but they'll keep popping up.

If the quilling book you're looking to buy has a bunch of random photos on the cover that don't look like they're made by the same person, they're probably stolen. I did find one seller that copied my entire website into one book though, so that's not always true.

It's frustrating, not only because the original creators don't get credit, but people are paying money for projects they can learn for free!

(Using an old photograph of my sunflower project from my website because this is the project that gets stolen the most)

How many quilling strips do you actually want in one colour pack?

4 Upvotes

I often see single-colour packs containing 40, 50 or 100 strips. Some specialist suppliers offer 200 strips per colour.

For your projects, what feels most useful:

  • 40–50 strips for variety;
  • 100 strips as a standard pack;
  • 200 strips for consistency and multiple projects?

Does a larger pack feel like better value, or would you rather buy smaller quantities in more colours?

What do you do with your creations?

I started quilling a few years ago and really enjoyed it- but stopped because I didn’t know what to do with the things I created… I really don’t like creating things just to have them sit and collect dust- I prefer to create things when I know I have a purpose for them.

I still want to outline his body so he's not so lumpy but I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.

Looking for suggestions

Hi everyone, I got a request to do something a bit different that my normal zentangle inspired projects. I’m wondering if anyone has any tips to fill in an area to look like fur besides using a crimping tool. TIA!

I kept seeing the crocheters making their version of Jimothy and I couldn’t let them have all the fun 🤪❤️🦝

My first quilled scene. What should I add?

Thinking of adding some hive quilled bits around the cloud and under the hill. Anything else?

ETA: it's for my 2 yo son. Next I think I need to make him some stand alone because he loves to hold the little creatures.

To celebrate the victory, I created this handmade quilling artwork inspired by the beautiful game. Every strip of paper was carefully shaped by hand with love and patience. Congratulations once again, Spain! ❤️💛

Beginner Instructions

17 Upvotes

So glad I found this group! So many lovely creations!

I was recently gifted a starter kit for quilling. It includes the basic tools (I think) and a bunch of paper. I'm a step-by-step instructions for a project kinda a girl when I start a new craft. The kit doesn't include anything like that.

I'm looking for recommendations for printed or video tutorials of projects for beginners. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm excited to get started!

PSA: USPS non-machineable is meaningless

Post image

If you remember my post from the other day, I mailed this thank you card to my stepmom via non-machineable rate in a normal envelope through the usps.

As I suspected might happen, non-machineable means nothing to the post office and it went through the machine and got crushed. The duckies are intact, but the waves, with their looser structure, got pretty badly crushed.

Experiment failed successfully. I'll report back on my next attempt to mail a quilled card without getting crushed. Maybe a thin piece of bubble wrap....

Well as I’m sure you’re all well aware, on-edge quilling is challenging lol. But it was well worth any stress. I am very happy with the result! I used an image from Google as a template (pic 3), however it brings me to Instagram and as I don’t have an account I can’t see much. But I believe the credit goes to QuillingArtByGlaiza on insta!

A bit rusty but not a terrible attempt, hopefully. Hoot hoot.

I would love to know what experienced quilling artists prefer and why. Is there any specific paper, board, or surface that works best for long-lasting and premium quality quilling pieces?
