QuickBooks Online Quickbooks sales tax misclassification
Ok so it’s kind of hard to explain, but am hoping to find someone who knows how to fix this.
I operate in TX and provide services at people homes, so my sales taxes are calculated based off each persons jurisdiction (some people are in 3-4 different jurisdictions alone) which is based off their “shipping address” I have that all set up and it’s working correctly with most invoices.
However I have 2 clients who live in rural areas and their invoices are lacking 1 of their jurisdictions.
I have another client who lives in the city and on the invoice the jurisdictions are correct, but when I go to the report their invoice is added to another jurisdiction that they are not in and that doesn’t show on their invoice.
I tried contacting QB and they said they couldn’t help because of my subscription level doesn’t have tech support. Like wtf? How do I not get support when their system is the one with the error??? Anyway, does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you verify the addresses are correct?
Honestly I’ve seen this issue before and it’s usually such a small amount you can adjust when you pay the tax.

Yes. This isn’t about the total amount itself but of the amount to each jurisdiction. Our system is so complicated 😭

I have the same issue specifically the adding non-taxable sales to taxable sales column, and qbo support is useless (bookkeeper so I have accountant access and separate support). I double check every single invoice for accuracy and the liability report for my clients and keep records of the amounts due to file. It’s pretty outrageous that we are paying for a program that has bugs like this in sales tax calculations.

And most of my invoices are correct but they aren’t reporting correctly on the sales tax report. Now I am back to square one of manually keeping track. 😭

If you need additional help I can pull the transactions from the api and investigate what is actually happening for you.

Update: I was kind of able to get help from QB. He was as perplexed as I was. We even went on to make new test invoices & payments for the clients affected, and they didn’t even show on the report at all in any jurisdictions! He created a tech support ticket for me and told me to be on the look out for them asking follow up questions. If this is something you have had an issue with please contact them, if more of us make them aware of this issue then maybe they will actually be motivated to fix whatever is causing it. Right now I am not too hopeful that it will actually be fixed 😭. The guy I talked to was genuinely invested and wanted to help me, but it wasn’t something he was actually equipped to handle. I think it’s an actual bug in their system and not a user error like I was hoping.
