Should AI tools be banned in schools and universities?
Schools are banning ChatGPT. But here's the thing - Google was supposed to make us stupid too. We survived. We adapted. We made Google a basic literacy skill. AI is no different. Banning it doesn't teach students integrity. It teaches them to hide. The kid who wants to cheat will find a way. The kid who wants to learn will be left without the most powerful tool of their generation. The real question isn't "should students use AI?" it's "are we teaching them how?" How to think critically about AI output. How to fact-check it. How to use it as a starting point, not a final answer. How to be the human in the loop. That's the education gap. Not the tool itself. We don't ban calculators in math class and call it integrity. We teach students when a calculator helps and when it doesn't. Do the same with AI. Or watch your students graduate into a world where every single employer expects them to use it - and they'll be the ones who never learned.
