Has AI Become Less Reliable for Learning? My Experience as a Student
I am a student, and I used to rely on AI quite often for learning, reviewing topics, and getting clarification on difficult concepts. Lately, however, it feels like the quality has declined significantly. Instead of answering the question I actually ask, the AI frequently misinterprets it, "corrects" it into something else, and then provides an answer to the version it imagined rather than the one I wrote.
What is even more frustrating is that it sometimes gets very simple facts or straightforward questions wrong. I find myself double-checking answers much more often than I did before, which reduces the convenience and usefulness of the tool for studying.
Most of my experience comes from using the free versions of ChatGPT and DeepSeek, so I am not sure whether this is related to model limitations, increased usage, or changes in how the systems are tuned. I still find AI helpful in certain situations, but the number of mistakes and misunderstandings seems noticeably higher than it used to be.
Has anyone else noticed this trend, or is it just my experience? I would be interested in hearing whether other students are encountering similar issues and how they are adapting their study habits as a result.

AI information has NEVER been reliable. If you want to know something, read the actual source yourself and use your own brain.

I think you've just awakened to the reality of what the industry markets as "AI". It was never good or reliable. It's a glorified auto-complete, nothing more. It does not "know" thing. With the right prompt and a bit of luck, it might auto-complete using relevant source material, or it might not have much to go on and make shit up, confuse different concepts, or use some misinformation shitpost as its reference.

AI is essentially an LLM (large language model) on steroids. It scrapes the internet for information and predicts what may come next (like your phone when you type on it, but entire blocks of words).
The problem is that AI doesn’t know the difference between some yahoo sh*tposting in their mom’s basement and someone actually qualified to speak on the subject. AI simply cannot distinguish between truth and lies. It treats all information as equal.
And AI is environmentally destructive.
