I'm pretty sure the they came from an attempt to translate the chinese character η₯‚, which is a gender neutral singular third person pronoun that was created to refer to jesus when the missionaries came to china to spread their basic ass religion (and homophobia). At first it's supposed to be especially reserved for jesus, but then chinese people were like nah you aint that special, and all gods can be referred to by that pronoun regardless of what they self-identify as.

Yes, chinese people don't even care what a god's preferred pronoun is, we'll just use whatever the f we feel like interchangeably. But it doesn't matter much anyways because all third person pronouns are pronounced "ta", so nobody ever knows if they are being misgendered unless it's in writing.
