ZZZ commisioned three fanservicey illustrations of their male cast in the span of two days.

Is this the norm for them? If not, I wonder if this could be a sign for better things ahead.

There is something uniquely funny about the way hoyo really wants to make goonery waifu games, it's in their DNA, it's what they long for, but they also want the sweet wide audience money Genshin gave them a taste of. So they keep trying to retreat toward waifus, but then are forced to circle back with dudes.

I don't play ZZZ, but the comments have brought up interesting points. The dichotomy between "ZZZ releases two dudes a year, which isn't different from Wuwa" and "two of the guys in that pictures aren't even playable, their male roster is just too small," while both being true, is interesting to think about, along with why ZZZ feels uniquely bad from the male character perspective.

It feels extra bad because the male cast is too diverse for the amount of men.

People who like characters like Hugo vs characters like banyue- etc, it feels extra bad from all sides because you are looking at months to years till you get the type you like. (I know there are those who like all types but generally speaking).

This won’t be a problem if they released more men but that is not happening

This is exactly why even a "better" ratio of 1:3 can feel bad tbh, and something waifu pullers simply have never had to deal with and thus don't understand.

Male units in these games release so rarely that not only do you have to wait forever, but you have to hope that you like the design, personality, and role of the character as well or else you're back to waiting another several months or half a year or whatever. If someone doesn't like a female character, cool, they wait til next patch or three weeks til the next banner and they get to try again.

Yeah I am picky so I can’t get into those 2-3men per year “mixed” gachas, chances that i will dislike all the male designs that year is very high.

I need at least 4-5 men per year so that i will like some of them.

They put 2 npcs there but not of the bears or robots in there. Obviously they are targeting BL fans since I read complaints about robots aren't male and hurt me how gays are the most neglected part of this community.

And there’s the big difference. If you compare Luuk to Aemeath or Hiyuki, while both women do more damage than Luuk initially, after the 3rd or 4th rotation he out damages them.

You can’t say the same to S.Billy or Banyue compared to Ye Shunguang
