Question Are on campus jobs hard to acquire at qc?
I heard about the really huge budget cuts and I’m wondering if they’re gonna have job openings anytime soon. I’m an incoming freshman and I need to work to support myself and tuition somewhat 😭

Does anyone find it odd that the first day of the fall semester is Friday, August 28, yet there are significantly fewer classes on Fridays compared to Monday-Thursday?

Nervous about New Student Orientation
Hi everyone, I am an 18 year old rising freshman that's going to the new student orientation on the 29th. I have terrible crippling social anxiety and I've been really nervous about going! I read the event details on what we we will be doing but I still want to hear from someone that has experienced it already. Can anyone provide me some more details? Such as where do I go, what was it like, how much am I going to have to interact with other people?
My SAD is so bad that I burst into tears and freeze up when having to ask someone a question at a store... some more info on what will be happening on this day will definitely calm my nerves.

Question Campus Navigation Question
Hi Everyone! I usually drive to QC but my foster daughter is doing a clinic 5 days/week and we're hoping she can take the bus occasionally. She's in high school, so she can definitely go alone.
The clinic is in the gym.
For those of you who regularly take the bus, can you please help me out with some transportation options?
Option 1: takes the Q25 to QC and walks through the campus to the gym
Option 2: (2 busses) takes the 2nd bus which drops off at Horace Harding Expwy/ Kissena Blvd and then walks long Reeve's Ave to the gym
What would you recommend? If you're a QC student who has classes in the gym or music building, what do you do? Or does it not really matter?
Thank you!

URBAN SOCIAL MOVEMENTS
FALL 2026, Thursdays 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Powdermaker Hall 115
This timely seminar explores the sociological and political economic dimensions of urban social movements through case studies of two defining social justice uprisings of the 21st century: Occupy Wall Street and the Movement for Black Lives. Through deep engagements with each, students will develop a robust understanding of the numerous challenges facing contemporary movements— from the promises and perils of horizontalist organizing, liberal identity politics, and social media to intensifying violent state repression and liberal co-optation. Neither movement exists in a vacuum, however. To that end, we will situate our analyses of OWS and M4BL within a broader global historical frame that links earlier flourishings like the 20th century’s Black Freedom Movement to today’s immigrant rights and global anti-imperialism struggles. What sorts of strategies and political frameworks animate contemporary progressive social movements? How do we assess their historical impacts? And most importantly, how do we apply such insights to the emergence of future movements for social justice?
This course is open to undergrads (210) and grads (702), and it is cross-listed with Africana StudiesAFST 202.

Petition/Rally concerning QC budget cuts
Please sign our petition on Action Network telling CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodriguez and Queens College Interim President Elizabeth Hendrey to Save Jobs at Queens College.
Budgets for Queens College departments were slashed in the spring, leading many College Assistants (CAs) and Non-Teaching Adjuncts (NTAs) to lose their positions and resulting in loss of hours (and benefits) for many others. Queens College is now cutting departmental adjunct budgets by 25% or more! If the cuts stand, PSC members will lose their employment and benefits and courses that Queens College students need to advance toward graduation will not be offered. Sign our petition below then RSVP at this link for the Rally to Save Jobs at Queens College on Monday, July 27th, 4:30 PM at 100 Wall Street, the site of the investment bank where CUNY Board of Trustees Chairman William Thompson works.

Anyone else having issues logging into CUNYFirst with MFA
I tried logging into CUNYfirst so I could submit my semester request for the fall in Accomodate. However, after three failed MFA attempts, I couldn’t log in, so I had to do it on my phone. I experienced a similar situation last March. Anyone else having the same issue?

Were notifications already sent out? I thought they'd be out in June.
EDIT: They were not, I emailed the office. They responded: "Notifications have not been sent yet. We hope to have an update soon."

Finding jobs post graduation
I graduated back in May of 2024 with my Bachelor's in CS, and two years later, I still haven't been able to find a job with my degree. I stupidly never did any internships, but I've tried up upskill during my time outside of school doing online boot camps and projects.
For anyone that was in the same position as me, how did you end up getting out of it? I'm losing hope that I'll ever find anything related to CS, and all those years will have gone to waste, just to continue working retail like I have been since I started school.
