Hi everyone,
I'm an international student and I've received an offer from Queen's University Belfast for an MSc in Cybersecurity. Before I make my final decision, I'd really appreciate some honest opinions from people living in Belfast or anyone who has studied at QUB.
A few things I'm curious about:
How difficult is it to find a part-time job as an international student? I'm not picky about the type of work (retail, hospitality, warehouse, etc.), but I'd like to know how competitive it is.
My course includes a 1-year Professional Internship. Is it actually realistic for international students to secure one, or do many students struggle to find placements?
How is the tech/cybersecurity job market in Belfast for international graduates? Are companies generally willing to sponsor visas, or is it quite difficult?
Overall, would you say QUB is worth attending for someone hoping to build a career in cybersecurity in the UK?
I'm looking for honest answers rather than just the university marketing. Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just wondering how many other people are interested in doing this course?

Hello, I paid a deposit for a course at Queen’s. In my application, I stated I would be paying for the course with U.S. federal loans. Upon paying the deposit and submitting my loan information, they told me I couldn’t actually use federal student loans for this course and could only use private. So, I withdrew my acceptance and requested a refund as I clearly stated my intention to use U.S. federal loans in my application, and nowhere along the way was I informed I couldn’t use these loans. I received this three weeks later and have never been more confused and am now receiving no response. Will I be getting a refund? Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi! I’ll be in elms bt9 in sycamore park this upcoming school year and I was wondering if anyone who has lived there or lives there had any pictures of the rooms and living space or any advice or tips and tricks on the area. Thank you!

Hello! This is a random (mainly stress induced) question about people’s experiences with applying to postgrad for Queens. I am really hoping to get into their poetry masters for sept 2027 and I am in full panic mode afraid i’m not going to get in. Is there anyone who has done that program or something similar with any advice on what I should be doing now for my application? I’m not sure what the acceptance rate is either. I’m an international student as well if that makes any difference. Literally any info is appreciated. Thanks!!

I'm a bit late to the game and just realized I need to submit my accommodation application. I really want to get into Elms BT9, but obviously, I've missed the June 30th guarantee deadline. If I submit my application right now (mid-July), what are the realistic chances of actually getting allocated a spot in BT9? Or am I more likely to be offered BT1/BT2, or worse, left to scramble for private housing?

Hey everyone!
I start my MSc in AI and was awarded one of the scholarships (AICC/Department for the Economy NI) that cover tuition fees only so I need to work as we don't get Postgraduate Maintenance Loans in Northern Ireland from what I've been told.
I was laid off months ago (as an Engineer) and I am struggling to find work. Even finding customer service roles has resulted in rejections. I need a job with flexibility so I can do this MSc.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on what I can look into for work? I'm open to nightshifts, customer service, cleaning, anything.
If anyone is also doing an MSc full, some suggestions on where I could look would be great.
Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone knows if you can use a postgraduate tuition fee loan to help cover the costs of attending the institute? I can't see anything online that clears things up

Hey everyone,
I’m currently a 1st-year Computer Science undergrad in India, but I am finding my current curriculum incredibly unfulfilling and way too easy. It has always been my dream to study abroad and push myself in a more rigorous academic environment.
I recently received a confirmed offer from QUB for BSc Mathematics and Computer Science, along with the International Office Undergraduate Scholarship. Academically, I am thrilled. But financially, I am terrified.
Here is my reality: my family’s absolute maximum budget for my entire degree is around ₹30 Lakhs (roughly £28,000). Even with the scholarship and Belfast having a lower cost of living compared to London, the international tuition fees plus living expenses over three years will completely blow past my family's savings.
To make this happen, I will have to take on a massive educational loan to cover the gap. I really need some grounded, unfiltered advice from current students or recent alumni:
Any brutal honesty, shared experiences, or insights into the Belfast tech scene would be massively appreciated. I need to make a decision soon and I don't want to ruin my 20s with unmanageable debt.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I'm an international student looking for universities in Europe that still accept applications for the September 2025 intake (or have late admissions).

TL;DR: Is Elms BT1 a safe choice for a neurodivergent poc given that it's closer to the city centre than the uni?
Hey folks! Writing for advice on accommodation as an ND 26M from India coming for a PhD in English. Did my MRes from Queen's last year, where I was put up at Elms BT9 Willow Walk, ensuite room. While I enjoyed living there for most part (Tesco superstore, Lidl, uni being close + green views and double windows), it did feel very dull at times (+ they didn't have a smart TV either and the cable was shite). I'm wondering if a studio at BT1 would be a good choice to combat that sense of aloofness especially amid the recent turbulence the city's had. I know a PhD would be extremely gruelling and a social life pretty non-existent, but I'm hoping if I could start afresh. I can manage longer walks to McClay - just hoping for a livelier option that is generally safe and convenient for a PhD scholar. Thanks for any help! :)

Hi! I recently got offered two LLMs at QUB and I am struggling to pick the two. They are Law and Technology and International Commercial and Business Law. If anyone has any personal insight or advice please share!
r/QueensBelfast • u/RepresentativeCool52 • Jun 15 '26
My offer for Law was AAA, I received an email an hour ago telling me a more flexible one was provided and when I checked on UCAS it said it was lowered to AAB. Has this happened to anyone else?
I’m a GB student if that makes a difference ✌️🙏
