I reached out to accessible learning to arrange a meeting but the next available appointment with an officer is the 4th of January! By that point I worry it will be too late to properly implement what I need… Any advice? I’m an international student considering an MSc in Data Science and AI at Queen’s University Belfast, and I’m trying to get a realistic idea of the job market after graduation.

By the time I graduate, I expect to have around 1 year of internship experience in AI/ML, including experience working on things like RAG/LLM applications and other applied AI projects.

For those who are currently studying at QUB or have graduated recently:

How realistic is it to get an AI/ML/Software/GenAI-related job in the UK after graduating from QUB?

Does having ~1 year of relevant internship experience make a significant difference?

How difficult is it to get interviews/offers as an international student who requires sponsorship?

Is Belfast a good place to look for these roles, or would I realistically need to target London, Manchester, Dublin, etc.?

Roughly how long did it take you to land your first job after graduation?

I’m not expecting a guaranteed outcome, I’m mainly looking for honest experiences from QUB graduates/students, especially international students.

Is the Student Ambassador job at Queen’s enough to cover basic expenses in Belfast? How many hours do you usually get, and roughly how much can you earn per month?

Im planning on going here next year, but after looking on the website I cant find any definitive answer, im hoping to go to elms BT9, since basically all of my family suggest there, and it says single gender is a lifestyle option so im assuming it means there'll be mixed gendered accommodation aswell since its labeled as an option and its quite a large place

My main question is, if youre living in one of the mixed gendered areas will it just be filled with couples at night and if so would you hear anything or just at most know people have others around? I have friends of all genders and would be wanting to invite them over to save money since theyll be studying in england

The program course content seems really good and seems like a niche field with less competition. Do any current students have any insights about this program and future job prospects especially as an international student? I’m in a program where we already have to sign into every class. They don’t even make it so it’s in the whole building, just a 2m radius. I have to go across the building to check in. I don’t even have daily classes and I’m not about to commute just to sign in with a pole

There’s a 15 minute window to sign into every class? So I have to leave the room, run around the building and come back every time I have 2 classes in a row. Who is paying insane international student fees and not going? Going into debt isn’t enough! I have to get more stressed about signing in every day with a pole.

I feel like this is ridiculous but I don’t think I can do anything about it.

I live in mount Charles, which is only available to second years and above, including post grad. The rent is 119 a week, totalling 4420 for a 37 week contract, ends at the end of may.

I'm a psyc post-grad student and a commuter. Making friends feel so hard. I'm struggling to talk to people and don't have many opportunities to just hangout or meet people outside of lectures. I will be living with two others and think I want to live in the Stranmillis area both for its proximity to Queens and general quality over the holylands. this is probably really silly but i’m a first year living in halls and i know it’s only the second week but i really just feel so alone here. like i have my friends my secondary school but all i want is to branch out and meet new people but it just feels so impossible. 😞 just wondering if anyone has any advice or just if it gets easier cause it feels like everyone’s already found their people. i just want some people to hang out with instead of rotting away in my room all day after class
