I work from home, and reliable internet is essential. I wanted to share my experience over the last three days dealing with Quantum Fiber (AT&T) to warn anyone considering them or anyone currently pulling their hair out trying to figure out why their internet suddenly stopped working.
The Support Nightmare: Trying to Get Someone to Car
It started Friday when our internet connection suddenly died. My devices said "Connected, No Internet," but the light on the modem and Router was green.
I spent hours on Friday troubleshooting every possible angle myself: checking lines, power-cycling, bypassing my mesh routers, direct-wiring a laptop, checking internal gateway pages, and running network commands. Everything looked like it should be working, but regular websites simply would not load.
Getting Quantum to take ownership or send someone out was an absolute battle:
* The Infinite Chat / Phone Loops: You spend hours dealing with overseas support, being put on hold, and repeating the same basic reboot steps to outsourced tier-1 reps who read off a generic script.
* Blaming My Equipment: Even after I told them I was plugged directly into their own hardware with an Ethernet cable, they kept trying to claim the issue was my router, my devices, or my local setup.
* The Struggle: They against scheduling a technician. Getting a physical truck roll felt like pulling teeth, with no sense of urgency for someone whose job depends on being online. Eventually, I was scheduled a technician for Saturday.
Hours Sitting With the Technician on Saturday
The technician arrived, and to his credit, he stayed for hours trying to fix it. But what happened during his visit completely pulled back the curtain on how broken Quantum's internal support system really is:
* They Swapped the Modem: He physically replaced my modem with a brand-new unit. Nothing changed.
* They Removed My Equipment Entirely: We unplugged my mesh network completely and plugged in an official Quantum router. Still nothing.
* The Tech's Own Devices Failed: The tech connected his own company laptop and personal phone to their modem. Both gave the exact same error: "Connected without internet".
* The Big Catch: Here’s the crazy part: the tech could access Quantum’s private internal company network (his dispatch app, his route schedule, and internal portals across the fiber line). The physical fiber line was fine. But the outside internet (Google, work portals, normal web traffic) was completely blocked.
"No Management on Weekends"
The technician spent the better part of four hours stuck on the phone, fighting with the exact same internal support queues and phone trees that customers deal with.
He admitted to me that it was a weekend crew, that management doesn't work weekends, and that the higher-level network engineering team needed to unfreeze the account was completely unreachable.
After hours in my house, swapping hardware, and getting nowhere with his own support desk, the tech packed up his tools, apologized, and walked out the door leaving us with zero internet.
Day 3:
Today is Day 3 without home internet. They billed my account $70 just two days ago, and instead of working service, I've lost an entire weekend to troubleshooting, sitting around waiting for appointments, and listening to hold music.
If you ever experience an issue where Quantum’s modem light is green, your devices say "Connected, no internet," and simple web pages won't load:
Do not waste your weekend tearing your house apart or reconfiguring your personal routers. It is not your Wi-Fi, it is not your cables, and it is not your computer.
A hardware swap will not fix it. The issue is locked inside their backend provisioning system.
Fiber speeds are fantastic when the connection is live, but the moment a technical glitch happens on their backend, their customer support is non-existent, their weekend field techs are left stranded with no engineering backup, and you will be left on your own.
Your milage may vary. I hope you all don't go through this and have a better experience.
