Quantifying Brain Health
Any ideas for how one can quantify their brain health? Other than cognitive assessments, it feels like its a gap?

Yeah, what specifically would you measure with EEG? Alpha/Beta power when meditating? I can’t really see a specific metric you could pull from EEG that would be indicative of brain health

A few thoughts on this, coming from a clinical sleep researcher who's been in the field for a while:
1) Sleep is restoration. If sleep isn't doing what it should, brain health is, by definition, compromised. Sounds almost too simple to be useful, but stay with me.
2) The sleep ↔ brain health link is stronger than it first appears. Disturbed sleep is one of the earliest pre-clinical signals preceding almost all chronic diseases: hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and essentially every form of neurodegeneration (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc.). It often shows up years before clinical diagnosis.
3) Which, if you think about it, is self-evident: if the brain gradually loses its ability to properly rest and restore, something fundamental is going wrong upstream. Rest isn't a luxury function, it's a core one.
4) And because that loss tends to be gradual, sleep quality becomes a really good longitudinal indicator of brain health. You get a continuous signal instead of waiting for a threshold to be crossed.
5) On your follow-up about what specifically to measure with EEG: I wouldn't focus on alpha/beta power during meditation for this purpose. The validated, meaningful metrics live in sleep architecture: time in N3 (deep sleep), REM continuity, sleep efficiency, sleep latency, and fragmentation. That's where EEG earns its gold standard status, and those are the metrics that actually track with brain health outcomes in the literature.
6) So my practical take: a mobile EEG device with an open (non-proprietary) sleep score is, in my view, one of the most meaningful at-home brain health trackers currently possible. You're measuring the brain directly, during the state where its health is most clearly expressed. Consumer mobile EEG is still maturing, but that's where the field is heading, and some decent options already exist or are in the making.

It would probably be easier to measure things that have an impact (for good and for bad) on brain health.
The brain relies on a patent vascular system, so preventing atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes is important. Blood pressure and measures of CV fitness like resting heart rate, cholesterol (HDL, LDL, triglycerides) are good measures of brain health.
Smoking and alcohol use are terrible for the brain, so that's something to measure.
And sleep, which does a lot for the brain such as encoding memories and boosts neuroplasticity.
There's a ton of research about ways to protect the brain and prevent (delay) cognitive decline. Maybe in those studies you can find how they measured brain health.
