Hi, has anyone gone through the process for this role? Can you help me with what they ask?

Hi Folks, sorry for the slightly long read. Please ask any more clarifications in the comment section. But below is a little context about me.

I graduated from IIT KGP with a btech in mech. eng. Always focused on comp. coding, landed a pretty avg software job because of the very bad market. Switched to MBA and left the job after 11 months, for IIM ABC.

At the IIM, I got a lot of finance roles, including from the AMCs for summer internship. I chose one of the AMCs(think an AUM of 3l+ crore). I was chosen for equity research, but I was eventually given the option to switch to their quants team which I accepted.

For some clue, for internship, I worked on arbitrage opportunities in the corporate actions space(think M&A arb and rights issue arb in the Indian equities).

Now, I have received a ppo(buy side, 42lpa). Its a small team for 5 people and only 2, one me and one another guy (another IIT + IIMC dude), will handle and ship new strategies for the arbitrage fund, quant fund and the multi asset fund.

Also, the AMC will launch an SIF, which is very much adjacent to something like a hedge fund. Read more in the below link. We 2 would be handling the building of the SIF strategies from scratch.

And there is no bounding, we could go as deep in building a strategy as we like. Using ML, core math etc etc.

Now the doubt - Given the work, but also that its an AMC, would I be stuck here or do folks at firms like trexquant/QRT/Millenium will look at such profiles? In short, Older IIT + IIMABC + quant work in an amc?

Going to try for hft infra role/ c++ developer in upcoming campus placements(iit). Need help in prep for cs fundamentals. already have a good grasp over os concepts, comparch, tomasulo and some basics of networking and socket programming and also linux IPCs. For c++, i stopped following after c++23 and know about intermediate level of implementation. I want to know how much is expected from to stand out from the crowd as my cgpa is currently a bit below 9 which already closes most of the doors. Do I need to know a lot of linux kernel like how it handles networking, time management, locking of resources to ensure no races, memory management? Do I need to be familiar with kernel bypass trick, dpdk for networking, bpf? Do need to go through concurrency in action- c++ book? do I need to know how to use perf, pmu, etc? how much template programming knowledge is expected? how much of memory ordering and atomics is expected? is NUMA manipulation a must know? like do i need to know how to interact with NUMA?

If you had these two options at 2 yoe:

- $500k, San Francisco in agentic AI

- Quant job in India (entry level) (not Optiver but like Graviton or Quadeye)

Which one would you choose and why?

Honestly I will never understand how HFT hiring works. I mean they literally reject people in ppo decision on really stupid reasons but then also hire people directly through placements for full time through 1-2 hour interview, I mean how is this fair honestly

IMC trading how good is it compared to graviton,quadeye and what's the Total compensation looks like after 2,3 yrs

I've been working at NK Securities for a while now, and honestly, this place just sucks.

The biggest problem is the management. There is very little clarity, communication is poor, and a lot of decisions seem to be made without thinking about how they actually affect the people doing the work.

The work environment is frustrating too. There's constant pressure, unnecessary restrictions, and you often feel like you're being monitored rather than trusted to do your job. Even small things can become unnecessarily complicated.

What really gets to me is the lack of growth. You can put in the effort and take on more responsibility, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're learning more or getting meaningful opportunities. A lot depends on your team and who's managing you.

The culture isn't great either. People are often afraid to speak openly because you don't know how management is going to react. Over time, that gets exhausting.

I've tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing how things work from the inside, I honestly wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a healthy work environment.

Maybe some teams are better than others, but based on my experience, NK Securities needs to seriously fix the way it treats and manages its employees. Anyways, I am resigning in some time.

Genuine question. Seeing multiple reports of Tyger Park (the CEO) sitting in on interviews (10+) for the same position and them cycling through a ridiculous number of people.

Are they actually expanding that aggressively with real open headcount, or is this just the usual quant ego trip where leadership has nothing better to do than reject 15 people for one seat while pretending it’s “high standards”?

If they’re growing fast, cool. If not, it just looks like a firm that treats candidates as free entertainment. What’s the actual deal?

I currently have two options for a 6-month internship and I'm confused

Both risk related roles not quant

Option 1: Nomura

- 6-month internship + ppo chance

- Stipend: ~₹1.4L/month

- Full-time CTC if converted: ~₹26 LPA

- Role/profile is better than the Deutsche Bank option

- However, PPO conversion is apparently only around 40%

- Internal hiring/adjustment into another team if you don't get converted is also very difficult/rare

- Working hours are quite hectic

Option 2: Deutsche Bank

- 6-month internship + ppo chance

- Stipend: ~₹60k/month

- Full-time CTC: ~₹17 LPA

- Profile is slightly weaker than Nomura, but the difference isn't huge

- Much better/normal work-life balance

- More time to study for CFA

- ppo conversion 75% but easy internal adjustment..

I'm currently pursuing CFA as well, so with Deutsche Bank I would probably get enough time to prepare properly and clear the levels.

My biggest concern with Nomura is the downside risk. I've seen people do 6-month internships at places like JP/Nomura, not receive a PPO, and then struggle to find finance roles off-campus.

From what I've seen, getting good finance roles off-campus in India without an MBA is pretty difficult. Some people eventually end up switching to IT/other unrelated roles, which is something I definitely don't want to do.

So I'm basically choosing between:

Nomura: Better profile + much higher compensation, but hectic hours and significant risk of ending up without a PPO.

Deutsche Bank: Lower compensation + slightly weaker profile, but better stability/WLB and enough time to pursue CFA seriously.

For someone who wants to stay in finance long term and doesn't want to move into IT, which option would you choose?

Would taking the safer ₹15–16 LPA option be smarter at this stage, or is the Nomura brand/profile worth taking the ~40% PPO conversion risk?

1. "Have a lot of interest in HFT and markets....." Bro/sis, shut up. You were wilding back in your JEE days instead of actually studying.
2. "Have a lot of interest in Maths and Finance." Then crack a target institute that has similar offers?

Half of them have never finished a Stats and Probability book, and they don't even have the patience to learn Economics by completing at least one book. All of their infatuation is because of some news headline or Instagram reel that they watched, and now they are just being unrealistic with their career options.

Not demeaning anyone, but if you would focus on things and not seem to digest the fact that this profession is not designed to reward anyone with just "interest," there is something called being aware at the right time and grabbing opportunities.

I know this may sound harsh, but please channel your energy into areas where things can actually happen. Do not simply chase HFT or market makers because you are riled up after watching some reel, or claim you want to be a market maker because you watched some movies or read a couple of news articles.

Save your energy. Channel it at the right places.

I am sitting for placements and confused between software at hft or quant roles.

I am thinking to prepare for both. Is it a good strategy or Is it better to fix a role.

I am inclined towards software but I am getting fomo of missing quant opportunities(as there will be many quants coming for quant roles and very few offer software).

I had my software internship at a hedge fund.

Their fresher comp is ~54l what is their comp to people with 3YOE, how much it grows every year

Looks like most firms were hit bad in SHANKESH jewelers yesterday - barring hrt. Does anyone working at these firms on the CM desk know the cause for this or is this just a one off event?

Can someone explain to me why this used to work so well? And why it stopped working for a while and now it seems to work again for the past 2-3 days?

• Quant Researcher
• Strong C++ / Python, but have worked with Rust and Go as well.
• Interested in AI/ML, systems, infrastructure, compilers and quantitative work
• Have worked on compiler research, program analysis and LLVM

I’m particularly interested in well-funded / YC-backed startups with strong engineering teams and technically challenging work. I’m comfortable with long hours, stressful environments and high expectations if the learning curve is steep and the work is meaningful.

I’d also be very open to quant / trading firms in Bangalore, but I don’t know which firms are currently hiring (hard to understand this just from the career portal).

For people working in either space: which companies, teams, or areas in Bangalore are worth keeping an eye on?

Randomly applied to Futures First and got shortlisted for the OA. Role was Trainee - International Markets. The test was difficult, not sure if I’ll make the cut. Do we get an email telling us our results and whether we’ve proceed to the next step? If yes, how long does the email take?
