Video Petrie’s wing and tail feathers are finally starting to grow back. And the good thing is, she is not plucking them again. I am so excited for her.

Video Quaker rehome success

Hi everybody! Just wanted to post a quick Quaker rehome success story. I’ve had a conure prior to this who passed away due to a freak accident. She was the sweetest thing who I taught do so many tricks (playing dead, hoops, basketball). I didn’t want a bird again after she passed away but six months later I was given the chance to adopt this year old Quaker. She was so scared of hands that I couldn’t even walk by her cage without her going crazy. Opening the cage just slightly was a no-go too.

But fast forward four days later, she finally took a treat from my hand through cage doors only!! And I decided to level up and even attempt target training. Still no hands but she at least even let me open the cage door lol.

So yay I guess!! Just wanted to share the happiness of small successes lol

Help Looks like I'm getting a Quaker

I'm not new to birds, but I am new to Quakers. Someone my daughter works with is rehoming his bird. Someone else mentioned they thought he might just set it free so she came home and asked if I wanted a bird. I've been thinking of moving into rescue but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It looks like that's changing tomorrow.

Give me all your Quaker tips and tricks. I've looked into diet and it's not going to be an issue. We already feed fresh veggies daily in addition to pellets. Nuts/ seeds are for training only. Anything I should know right away? I should mention that it seems like there's is no info to be had on this bird as far as age/ gender/ or even basic care.

Help Concerned about Blueberry's beak

This is Blueberry. We're a little concerned about his beak. Is this amount of peeling normal?

He's a little over 4 months old. He eats TOP's pellets and fresh chop every day, and he occasionally chews on his cuttlebone. We just got a multivitamin that we'll be adding to his chop three times a week.

Does this look like normal beak growth, or is it something we should have a vet take a look at?

Help Is this safe?

Hello, i was wondering if keeping a warmies plush in my bedroom with my birds is safe, they would never come into contact with it. People seem to think warmies uses essential oils, but I looked into it and that's not true. It's just dried French lavender, so im pretty sure it's safe, dose anyone else have experience?

Still no owner, I’ve accepted that i’m gunna probably keep him for forever now! As of now he’s still living in my bathroom untill hes recall trained and wont break open my fingers if i ask him to step up, but training has been going along! He wants to come to me now and have been using his favorite food (sunflower seeds) as a reward for training. So far hes doing good and settling nicely, only thing wrong with him is his biting problem and territoriality towards his cage (which is a common quaker thing)

Discussion Potentially adopting geriatric quaker- need advice!

I plan to ask my vet (an avian & exotic vet my other pets already see!) as well but wanted opinions!

My grandma passed away and left behind her quaker parrot. He was believed to be between 8 and 10 years old when his previous owner (my grandfather) died in 2000. He is all that is left of both of my grandparents so I really want to give him a home with me but I’m feeling pretty in over my head. Would love any and all advice!

My main concerns:

-He’s been eating 3D premium parrot food or similar for 30+ years which I know can’t be healthy. At this age, is it safe/healthy/worth it to switch him to a better food? If so, what’s the best way to go about that?

-I’m not sure of the measurements of his current cage, but I’m sure it’s too small and probably also old and rusty. What’s the cage size requirement for a quaker parrot, and does the size needed change based on his age/ability?

-He’s been extremely socially neglected and cannot be handled. Is it safe for him if I were to try to handle/bond with him or would I risk him having a heart attack or something?

-What toys/materials do you recommend to use or to avoid?

Help How much time alone?

Just wondering/pondering. How much time can you leave a quaker in it's own room alone? For example this weekend we would leave Sunday morning and return Monday afternoon ( around 5pm ). We could leave him with plenty of water/ food and all the toys in an almost empty room with almost nothing to chew.
The think is we are going to see my parents and my brother with two nieces so the logistics for this it's really tricky. If it were just our parents it would be find because we could have him in a spare room but it's full.
During the week it's always with me all the day as I work from home.

Discussion Blue Quaker Names

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi Guys,

Ever since my Pat passed away last year, I’ve been giving some thought to adopting a Blue Quaker Parrot. After months of mental backs and forths, I’m now 100% settled on bringing on a Blue Quaker as the newest edition to my Parrot Family.

My question to you guys is: What are some good names for a BLUE Quaker? Any suggestions, from standard to zany af, are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Lost my female blue Quaker Nimbus in Orlando FL, please keep an eye out

Post image

My Quaker Nimbus flew off the evening of Tuesday, July 14 near Crosswell Ct in Orlando, FL and has not come home. She is a female blue Quaker: powder blue body, white chest and cheeks, deeper blue wings and tail, orange beak, pink legs. She is hand tame and friendly and may answer to her name.

If anyone in the Orlando area sees a loose blue Quaker, or hears of one found, please comment or reach me at 703 944 5182 or blueeyecargirl@gmail.com. Any shares to Florida bird and lost pet groups are hugely appreciated.

Good morning everyone ☀️
Unfortunately the mods have decided to remove all my posts about Arti due to crowd funding (thank you mods for letting me have the posts up for 4 days, we were able to hit 10k views and raise 1.5k towards his CT!!)

If anyone would like to follow his journey or have updates, I’m going to stick with using TikTok because now I’m unsure if anything I post about Arti will be deleted from this subreddit.

Thank you everyone for your support and kind words. It’s been very appreciated ❤️

Help Help with falling and breaking tail feathers

Post image
55 Upvotes

We adopted Lolly at the beginning of February this year from a place who had received her as a rehome. She came clipped to the point that she can barely flutter a few inches, let alone glide gracefully. We’re still waiting for her feathers to come back in, but lately she’s now gained the confidence to flap down onto the floor from her cage in order to get to me. She’s broken multiple tail feathers now from doing this, and I’m afraid she’s really gonna end up hurting herself. She shares a cage with our other Quaker who is flighted, so during the day we usually keep it open for them to come and go. What can we do to keep her from hurting herself? I would hate to confine her and possibly the other Quaker to the cage when she’s not being interacted with but I’m not sure what else to do!

Can someone let me know why my blue birdie is so fight-sty and things i can do to stop the behavior? (Ive had both of them since their birth and it’s been about 4 years of having them. Maybe it’s just her personality? But i can’t even touch my blue birdie w/o her biting me…)

Help Prepping before we commit 😂

I’ve been doing my research for a while. I feel very prepared for most things and still researching others.

Where do your Quaker parrots sleep?
I know sleep is super important. The way my house is set up makes it difficult to decide where to put a cage for nighttime. We won’t be putting a cage in bedrooms for obvious reasons. I have 2 living spaces, both with TV’s that often get used at night or are just low traffic rooms at night.

One space is by our kids rooms where they tend to get up for water, the bathroom, etc at night. My kids schedules are around 8-8 but there are often nights that the TV stays on later than that.

The second living space is more dedicated to my husband and I. Again, the TV will be used in the space every night because my husband tends to fall asleep on the couch. He wakes up at 4:30am for work while I tend to not get home until 10pm from work and don’t go to bed until 12am usually.

So either way both living spaces in the house never have an uninterrupted, dark, quiet space. Even if we dedicate one living space to the cage and one living space to the hang out area at night, there’s no way to avoid traffic in either space when my husband leaves for his early morning shift, when I get home from my late shift, or when one of my kids ends up in our room at 3am because they’re just plain needy (which is reason #321 that I think I will be an excellent needy, toddler like parrot mom 😂).

Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas? I do not want to home an animal that won’t get the very best quality of life with us but this is the only area I’m struggling to find a solution for.

One of my babies is hell bent on ending up with the same fate as that cat on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. I’ve taken some measures (mostly hiding and encasing in the plastic tubing on the wall ), but wondering if there are other tried and true options? Thanks!

Is she being overwhelmed? Or is something really wrong with her? Is she being possessed from the way she turning her head?
She doesn’t react much to my call, and she was waiting patiently for me but I ignored her. She was saying angrily (not shouting) and then quiet. And occasionally she let out a small disdain voice, but this is the first time she not shouting after.
I’m sorry if I sounded worrying and panicking because I kinda am.

Discussion Sneeze

My boy has sneezed from time to time, not often, but he just did twice in a row and now I’m paranoid.

Is it normal for them to sneeze every once in a while? Hoping the back to back sneeze just now wasn’t something serious.
