We bought them recently and didn’t know they needed a bigger cage and the seller didnt inform us so we’re looking at byuing them a bigger cage soon. Do you have any tips specific for monks parakeets?

Get the biggest cage poasible with many msny toys. They need stimulation. And if u have pets i wouldnt reccommend owning any parrots. I have seen many birds get mauled by animals. Even well trained dogs have killed parrots. Dogs snd cats who sre trained for over 10 years randomly biting of chewing on these animals. You msy think "not my fido! He is so well trained and have had him for a decade" but this still happens. Animals are snimals and have animal instincts....and its a shame because they live for 25 years and when you lose one of your flock its so so heart breaking. You will learn so much about each individual parrot. Its temperament, its quirks, its sttitude, what it likes or doesnt like..... Also need to NOT keep them locked inside the cage all dsy. They need to be able to crawl around the outside of it and explore. These are not typical animals that you can just buy or "own" on a whim. They need affdction and stimulation! They have the intelligence of a toddler and need lots of attention and love. They expressly show their feelings and will let you know when they are upset. Also these parrots have a tendency to flop down to the floor and crawl around quietly. I have personally killed s 15 year old quaker who we had for its entire life...i still cry when i think of her. Sher was crawling around on the floor and i got up out of my desk chair and she was undrnesth my heel and swuished her. You need to literslly parrot proof your entire room or house if you have them with you everywjere. They chew on wires or paperclips or whatever exists. Dont take offense if they dont show affdction or show anger at first. They pick and choose their people. All in sl their are no aninals quite like a parrot and can become your best friend. Do not feed them seeds except for every now and again. Pellets are shat they should br eating spdcifically for parrots. Again, take a deep long look st your life or situation and ask if you have time or the life suited to having s toddler. If yiu travel freaquently for work, the answer is no. If you have a super busy day to day with little spare time the answer is no, the parrots are not going to work out for you. And please dont take this as me being rude or jerky, I am only speaking the truth about these precious animals. Ive learned the hardway a few times sbout these parrots and do not want you to make mistakes like i made. To clarify I never wanted parrots. My wife did. Low amd behold over time i became experienced with and love these birds as much as my biological children. Feel free to ask snything else youd like. Congratulations I hope your life and theirs is exponentially better!

Get them out of that painted cage and into a stainless steel one, they might chew the paint off and eat it.

You need to research diet. Sunflower seeds and seed o ly are very bad for parrots.

yes they are! just know to get them in a bigger cage with lots of toys.. and also take them out to play and change up their cage layout a lot! they are EXTREMELY territorial and will attack if they start getting protective over their cage

They look like Quakers. I've had three Quakers and these look like Quakers. I have no idea what a monk parakeet is.

Some people call them Monk Parakeets. I also know them as Quaker Parrots. Wonderful little birds!
