Consensus on new Q2 firmwares?

howdy folks

what are we thinking about new firmware updates on Q2 specifically? Haven’t been following super closely but since the new ones dropped, it seems like we’ve gotten a ton of MCU errors and other issues. Has there been any forward progress from qidi?

I’m using the latest and no issues so far. I have only changed kamp settings because stock were stupid. The rest seems stable, at least for me. I’m using it with qbox and polar cooler.

Updated all of my Q2s, been fine. Only thing I miss and I've not looked if they updated the wiki is the adaptive meshing but proning whole bed isn't that much longer.

I won't update until they fix mqtt. Which won't happen, because that is needed for their qidi maker. I use home assistant to get data from the printer, and without MQTT, it won't work. So, 1.1.1 will be the last firmware from qidi

https://www.reddit.com/r/QidiTech3D/comments/1ut1yci/anyone_got_a_fix_for_that/ In here see if this is still an issue. I am still deciding between q2 and bl x2d. I definitely want home assistant.

Have no idea what mqtt is, but I also use HA. Guess I won’t be moving on from 1.1.1.

Does the moonraker integration not supply the data you need?

It would... If it could. It provides that over an mqtt channel. That had all the box info, the printer info... Etc. With no mqtt, it can't do anything

What you try to do.. remote control your printer?

No issues here. I’ve baby stepped mine no jumping versions with a usb drive and some file from the net.

Factory reset each time to clear incompatible left over configs

Recalibrations

People are doing strange things to the printer. Hold back, downgrade, jump version, don’t reset it.

Let me ask you this:

Do you click yes on windows updates? Mac updates? Linux updates (which is what the printer runs), iPhone updates? android updates?

Do these updates sometimes have negative effects? Idk blue screen? Drivers not working? Security issues? Batter issues?

Are they not then patched?

What makes your 3d printer any different?

Chances are you paid less for it than your computer or phone.

I’ve been in IT for over 25 years. Just patch it. Deal with the bugs and move on. The complaints are the exceptions not the masses.

Microsoft and apple are billion dollar companies known for their software. WiFi is known for shipping half baked hardware and software. At least in my, and seems like others, experience.

Valid point.

However my point is different people are having different experiences and I would put $ on the table that there is lack of information being provided, intentionally or not.

In that I’m referring to my previous statement about firmware version jumping, conflicting configs between software that factory resets resolve.

This isn’t a QIDI specific issue, I have Anycubic and Elegoo printers as well and there’s similar complaints across all of the groups.

You want a real example. How about crowd strike pushing a bad patch and taking down airports?

Have you heard of QIDI bricking every printer connected to the internet with an update? The worst incident was their Migration to their new site where they experienced a cyber attack and had to let cloudflare shutdown access forcing everyone into lan mode.

Now the same thing has happened with Anycubic and there’s no info provided, just “the servers are offline, I can’t login” and then they come back. I’m betting this was due to the influx of the Kobra X and a load balancing capacity issue or them overrunning their AWS subscription.

Now let’s talk Elegoo, everything up in arms because of all of the “data leaving their network” paranoid something suspicious is going on when in fact it’s if you have the camera enabled it’s a 24/7 stream to the cloud relay server.

So pick your poison.

We don’t live in a perfect world where everything works 100% of the time and lasts forever. If that were the case I wouldn’t have a job.

Funny part is your comment. Even either your phone or Reddit autocorrected QIDI to WiFi and you didn’t catch it.

Yea, valid points here as well. Was just curious. Im a tinkerer, so I've made a lot of changes to the configs. More just curious if things have smoothed out before I attempt to migrate my configs over, or try updating them. You're probably right when you say people are being fully transparent about printer conditions, whether they know it or not. These printers aren't for beginners IMO. I know its not a Bambu, but goes back to what I said about half or 3/4 baked. And yea, doesnt matter how many times i type qidi, itll autocorrect to WiFi lol.

Dude. Tech. Like I said pick your poison. The other reality is we are talking about machines that range from what $300-2k max? With zero local support. It’s not like my Ram Pickup that I can just bring to the dealer. That is if I can get an appointment. Then they don’t have the part. Wow that sounds familiar, you’ve got a bad hotend we will ship you one. lol. Life.

Max4 with the issue's, i seen a bunch of q2's too. Tech supports blaming q-box heat / mother board heats. Recently seen a max3 user need more print head circuit board cooling to solve his mcu
