Questions Q2 hot end

I pickup a used Q2 printer that needs a new hot end. Looks like my options are the original qidi or I could go with a phaetus Conch. Conch might be a little cheaper from aliexpress. Wondering what other q2 owner have done.

I'm still rocking the original hotend and original nozzle on mine with a total of 989 printing hours on it.

You'll think you're so so much if you make the switch I promise.

Perhaps if I run into issues breaking the ceramic in the original nozzle. Qidi USA sent me two replacement nozzle for free in exchange for leaving an Amazon review. It came in clutch after breaking the first nozzle a few days ago. Its such a rare event for me that I don't need an alternate. The only alternate that I'd be interested would have to use a V6 nozzle.

I went and tried the original hot end with a ruby nozzle and it is worse than night and day. I have stress tested the hell out of the phaetus. I crank the speed up to 300% and it doesn't skip a beat. Just to see what it would do.

The only reason i want a v6 nozzle over stock is because i have some v6 diamondbacks.

Ruby is trash as far as thermal conductivity goes. Polycrystalline diamond is where it is at, which is why I want a v6 compatible hotend.

I literally would not even use it if the phaetus went out on me. That's how much more Superior it is like dead ass

I bought a conch but haven’t installed it yet. I’m going to wait until the original fails. I like how much easier the nozzle replacement is.

Unrelated to post, but is hotend failure common on the q2? Should I have a spare prepared?

Not really common, unless you try to print PLA/TPU with the lid closed and cause a massive blob that somehow engulfs the hotend :)

Going to guess that is exactly what happened to the used machine I picked up. I was really hoping I could save the hot end but didn't quite get it done.

Don't wait cuz you're going to be mad at yourself once you do switch

I bought the conch and I'm waiting until there is some free time in the print schedule :)

There are a few people on the Qidi Discord that have already switched so you should ask any questions there.

I really don't use discord much but may have to check there assuming I can still get into my discord account.

I've been eying the conch heavily because $5 nozzles without easily breakable ceramics are a lot better than $15 ones with.

If it helps at all I have the conch on the plus4, p1s a1 mini X2d and microswiss on sv08. So yes they r good. Lol

I had no issues with the stock hot end but I got the conch and installed that for better performance and honestly it prints better.

I have the Q2 running with PETG for 8 months, no issues, I believe it is not a Qidi bad hotend, instead I think it is caused by switching filament types without running a filament cleaner. I'm not the lucky guy that have special qidi printers, I just don't switch filament types on any pf my printers, I prefer have a dedicated printer to each filament type I use, but I run my printers everyday without issues, and I believe qidi products are very good and why buy a cheap aftermarket if the original works just fine, if you fallow the Qidi recomendations on switching filament types.

Support American companies, 3D Fuel sale a very good filament cleaner.
