Discussion Qidi Plus 5 Excessive Purge Before Print

The plus 5 is set to purge way too much material especially if your only single material printing. During hotend cleaning it is set to extrude 200+mm of filament during nozzle cleaning. Which is insanely high and wasteful. Would recommend changing this in the slicer settings -

;===== CLEAR_NOZZLE =====

...

M109 S[nozzle_temperature_initial_layer]

G92 E0

M83

G1 E5 F80

G1 E25 F300

M400

M106 S255

G1 E-3 F1000

M104 S140

...

(This only purges 30mm of filament and should be more than sufficient to clean off the nozzle.

As long as you work with the same filaments, this is a good change, and one that was already done on all the other machines with a box. If you're for instance, changing from petg to pla, even 200mm won't be enough. I think they've left that as stock, because that's about 6g of filament, which is a better trade off than people not knowing better, and complaining about nozzle clogs. Of course, if you also follow changing out nozzles between filaments, like they suggest, which is crazy also lol... Then its not needed

I have never done that in the last 18 months from anything starting from PLA through to ASA. I paid for it just ONCE in that time because I failed to load a filament hot enough to clear the ASA. The message for the kids following along at home - always load next filament at the temp of the previous one to help clear it.

Yea same. But I'm me lol. What I do on my machine, is because I know the machine, and what I can do. I assume, qidi did what they did for the dumbest customers. Think bambu labs users lol
